Justin Andrew Jones

of Jonesboro, AR

December 24, 1983 - August 27, 2023

Justin Andrew Jones, 39, of Jonesboro, Arkansas departed this life on August 27, 2023. Justin was born on December 24, 1983 to the late Bro. Bill and Judy Jones of Helena, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Tali and stepson, Adir of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two sisters, Amy Green (Michael) of Helena, Arkansas and Emily Cleary (John) of Las Vegas, Nevada. "Uncle JJ" leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, including Julia Jones of Orlando, Florida, Madison Cleary and Elijah Cleary of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Joshua Badis, Abigail Cleary and Cash Cleary of Las Vegas, Nevada, Cole Boyd (Jasmine) and Kellous Boyd of Helena, Arkansas and a great nephew, Morgan Alexander Boyd of Helena. He is survived by his aunts and uncles, Steve Jones (Dina) of Batesville, Arkansas, Ann Bonner of Jena, Louisiana, and Patsy Everhart (Freddy) of Austin, Arkansas. Justin was lifelong friends with his cousin, Ted Jones (Rachel) of Judsonia, Arkansas and leaves behind many cousins in Arkansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Alabama, Missouri and Texas. Justin also had friends he considered family, especially Wade Wichman of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Justin was a 2002 graduate of Marvell Academy and received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Arkansas State University. He was a gifted writer of fiction, especially short stories and screenplays. He often called his sisters and friends with a new movie pitch, as he enjoyed everything about writing and filmmaking. His love of the arts developed at a young age, including playing piano, guitar, studying a foreign language abroad and an obsession with film and music. Justin was quick witted, well read and loved a good spirited debate on everything from film noir to theology. Earlier in life, Justin was a Tae Kwon Do instructor, having earned his black belt at an early age. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Seinfeld, the Three Stooges, Charlie Brown, comic books and all things Batman. He never met a stranger and he touched the lives of so many people over the years. Justin was kind, creative, incredibly funny and a good listener. During high school, he helped his mom care for his dad, who had ALS. Shortly after Bill's passing, Justin cared for his mom, who lost her brief battle with leukemia. He had a heart for helping people of all walks of life. He and his sister, Emily, had a lifelong special bond, so much so that they could finish each other's sentences. Always challenging himself, he had recently asked his sister, Amy, to help him research law schools, as he was ready for another academic pursuit. He was a driver for FedEx in Jonesboro, where he lived and called home for many years. He had a bright future ahead and his sisters were proud of him.

Last year, Justin was blessed to have a family of his own and married his best friend, Tali, who is from Israel. Justin immersed himself in learning about Israeli customs and culture and often talked of traveling to Israel in the future with his wife and stepson. Justin will be deeply missed.

A memorial will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 11:00a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 302 E. Baldwin, in West Helena, Arkansas, with visitation at 10:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Justin's name to the ALS Association, Arkansas chapter.

I’m so sorry to hear of Justin’s passing. He called me a few times these previous weeks and we caught up and we were just talking a few days ago and we were even going to meet in Jonesboro and play chess. I’m still in shock that he’s gone, I’ve known Justin since I was 4 years old and we attended every school the very same schools together from the Presbyterian Kindergarten School to Phillips County Christian Montessori School to Marvell Academy to Phillips College, to Arkansas State University. We even attended the same martial arts school in Helena and we taught as assistant instructors to Mr. Lionel Moss the head instructor. I will be praying for the family during this difficult time. It’s too bad that we didn’t get to meet to play chess like we planned but I’m sure we will play chess when we meet on the other side.

I remember Justin as a sweet, smart boy growing up across the street from me. Apparently he grew into a sweet, smart man as well. I remember him being a big help taking care of his father and then taking care of his mother.I am so sorry I didn't get to know him as an adult.
