Carrie "Lulu" Lou Simmons

of LEXA, AR

June 27, 1955 - August 14, 2023

Carrie Lou "Lulu" Simmons, 68, of Lexa passed away Monday, August 14, 2023. Carrie was born June 27, 1955 in Memphis, TN to the late Geraldine and Malcom Wilson. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and a faithful friend to many.
Carrie was deeply devoted to her family, ministry, education and Phillips County. These were the loves of her life and everyone who knew her experienced her passion for these areas. With a contagious, outgoing personality, it was not uncommon to find Carrie volunteering or dropping off a meal for someone in need. She never met a stranger and was quick to promote all things positive in her hometown. During her career, she taught at Beech Crest Elementary, Phillips County Christian Montessori School and KIPP Delta. She was influential in the establishment of Young Life of Phillips County and led Bible studies for women and teenagers. Her greatest accomplishment was being a "Lulu" to her cherished grandchildren.
Carrie was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-six years, Bill Simmons. She will be remembered by her daughter, Stevee Pryor and husband, Scott of West Helena; son, Drew Simmons and wife, Dawn of Benton; five grandchildren, Eli Simmons Pryor, Bradley Caroline Pryor, Douglas Mae Pryor, Anna Grace Simmons and Beau Walker Simmons and many other family members and lifelong friends.
Her family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Roller- Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena. A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Carlisha, Brianna and Quay, as well as Elite Hospice, for their kindness and loyalty in her care.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Young Life at https://younglife.org/give or Faith Church at PO Box 2464, West Helena, AR 72390.

There is another bright and shining jewel in heaven. I know that while she will be missed here on this earth, she is celebrating her reunion with Bill, Kaye, Bro. Pat, and all of the others who have gone on home before her. She was a blessing, even though the past few years were hard. Her sweet voice and smile meant so much to those of us who were privileged to have known her. The impact she made upon all of us, her students, and most of all, her family, will forever carry her legacy forward.

Never was there a truer friend than Carrie. She loved with no bounds. Always there to help and support in any way, from the first day I worked with her over 40 years ago. We shared so many memories at work and with our families.
You will be missed as never before, but rejoice in your new health and home. Your children and grands will live on beautifully in your legacy.

Carrie will always be a dear classmate of the class of 1973. When I first went to Central High School, she was always so helpful and friendly. When I met her daughter Stevie years later at Woodruff Elementary, she reminded me so much of her mom. Her gentle and kind personality will be greatly missed.

Carrie was such a sweet and kind person. She was friends with my youngest sister, Mildred Forte, and this is how we became friends. She was a glowing candle in a world that needed light. Rest in peace, my friend, and in the arms of Jesus. Your candle will shine forever through fond memories.

Carrie was always a great friend to me. She would give me a ride home from school because she didn’t want me to have to ride the bus! My mom made two tuna sandwiches for mine and Carrie’s lunch and Carrie would buy my coke and fudge. She had such a kind heart! I’ll never forget the picture she gave me that said “Let no flower go unseen!” She truly saw good in everyone and I am honored that she was my friend. I am so thankful that Carrie is completely healed. My prayers are with her family during this difficult time.
