Carolyn Oxner

of Conway, AR

July 31, 1943 - August 12, 2023

Carolyn Odell Oxner, 80, of Conway, AR went to be with the Lord, August 12, 2023. She was born July 31, 1943 in Jackson County, North Carolina to Ralph and Oma Oxner. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents.

Carolyn lived most of her life in Newport News, VA. She was a devoted member of Parkview Baptist Church where she was active in their foot ministry, Bible study and grounds improvement. While living in Conway, Carolyn attended Harlan Park Baptist Church.

Carolyn had a gift for training animals. Her dogs would even put themselves in the pen for the night. She helped breed and show her Chow dogs, winning ribbons in AKC events. Her pet birds would play dead in her hand and turn around on her command.

For many years Carolyn enjoyed oil painting. Her favorite subjects to paint were western scenes of horses, cowboys, mountains and waterfalls. Carolyn was also skilled at caning antique furniture and helped her parents with antique restoration work.

Carolyn is survived by her brother, Tom Oxner (Karen); nephew, Luke Oxner, and niece, Maddie Johnson (Sam).

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to StoneBridge of Conway assisted living, as well as Melissa Hight, for caring for Carolyn these past several years.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.

Memorials may be made to Parkview Baptist Church at 604 Hilton Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23605.

I am so very sorry to hear that your sister has passed away. I will always remember seeing her walk her beautiful dog. We loved seeing her. She always had a smile and waved as we went past. I remember seeing her pineapple "statue" on her mailbox - I was later told that this was a "welcome sign". May she rest peacefully.

Tom & Karen, so sorry for your loss. Carolyn was such a good friend to my mom when she was at StoneBridge. She was such a great help to her and mom enjoyed, appreciated, and loved her. I always enjoyed visiting with Carolyn and I also appreciated the care she took with my mom. She was such a special lady.

I will miss Carolyn, my dear friend of many years, who loved the Lord and lived and walked in faith.  She was so trusting of others and loved making new friends. She generously gave away handmade arts and crafts that reflected her many talents, including painting, plaster casting, and crocheting.

As much as she was gentle and sweet-natured , Carolyn was also honest and direct in “telling it like it is.” One of my favorite memories of us together was when I called her one afternoon to tell her I was coming to pick her up for a ride in my new (new to me, that is) Miata convertible.  I thought I looked quite glamorous with the top down and wearing my most stylish Foster Grants.  Well, I pulled up in her driveway, and Carolyn walked out to the car.  She leaned in and said, “You look just like Stuart Little.”  Not exactly the image I was going for, but I had to admit she was right.

I can only imagine what it must have been like last Saturday when Carolyn came face-to-face with the Savior she had loved all her life and was reunited with her beloved parents and pets, which she had missed dearly. Until we see her again – happy, healthy and whole – I hope that memories of joyful times shared with her will be a continuing blessing to her family, friends and others of us who loved her.  Sweet dreams, dear Carolyn.  We’ll see you again in the morning light.

Much love,
Missy
