Elwanda Tatum, 98, of Batesville stepped into God's Heavenly Kingdom on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
She was born Saturday, August 16, 1924 in Caney, Oklahoma to Joe F. Umber and Jessie (Griffin) Umber.
Elwanda loved her husband, Sid, her family and especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She loved Jesus, her church and was a charter member of First Church UPC. Elwanda was a hard worker who loved flowers and could make anything grow. She loved to sew, make dolls, blankets, quilts and aprons. She was a loving mother and caring friend who was always full of advice, solicited or unsolicited. Her granddaughters always considered her the queen.
Survivors include her son, Bobby Tatum (Thelma) of Batesville; two daughters, Cheryl Kelton (Ron) of Cherokee Village and Wanda Chism of Collierville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Sherrie Scardino (Kevin), Christy Sykes (Dan), Deana Hall (Jimmy), Matthew Chism (Meredith), Kimberly Kelton Jaco (Jim); sixteen great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sid Tatum; two sons, Harold Deen Tatum, Jerry Tatum; one grandson, Ted Kelton and one granddaughter, Melissa Teague.
Pallbearers are her grandson and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters and the members of First Church UPC.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 10:00am at First Church UPC with Bro. MD Parmley and Bro. Jonathan Abbott officiating. Burial will be Monday, August 14, 2023 at 12:00pm at Crittenden Memorial Cemetery in Marion.
Visitation will be held just one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to First Church UPC, 240 White Dr., Batesville, AR 72501.

Sis Tatum was such a godly lady. She was a positive influence on everyone who knew her. One memory I have of her was shortly after my late husband pasted. She told me when her husband died she had to make a choice to either lay there in depression or live. She told me it’s not an easy process but take one day at a time. She said she chose to live and enjoy life. I made up my mind that day I would live. Her advice was something that helped me through a very difficult time. She was a blessing and thank you family for sharing her with First Church.

To the family of Mrs. Tatum:
My family and I considered Mrs. Tatum God’s angel here on earth. And we considered here to be family. She had such love and compassion for others. She sat with our mother during her hospice days and we will always remember her loving kindness. And mother loved her so much too. She is with our Lord and I look forward to the day when I get another Mrs. Tatum hug. May God comfort you all in this time of loss and take comfort in knowing that in her life She put God first and then others. This precious lady and her beautiful smile will be missed by us all.
