Marguerite Sahene

of Maumelle, AR

December 8, 1931 - June 21, 2023

Marguerite "Marg" Sahene of Maumelle, Arkansas passed away on June 21, 2023. Marguerite was born on December 8, 1931 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of John and Emma Smeltz.

On August 21, 1948, Marguerite married the love of her life, Barney Sahene. The two shared seventy-three years of wonderful marriage prior to Barney's death in April, 2021. Barney and Marguerite raised their six children together Bernadette Hurst, Carole Derby, Phillip Sahene, John Sahene, Jim Sahene and Lisa Hamilton.

Marguerite is survived by all six of her children, Bernadette Hurst, Carole Derby, Phil and Donna Sahene, John and Ruth Sahene, Paula and Jim Sahene and Lisa and Ben Hamilton; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her precious husband, Barney; her mother and father; her sisters, Anna Grace (Rub) Bacco and Audrey (Sam) Bacco; her son in law, Donald Hurst; son in law, Allen Derby and many friends.

Marguerite leaves behind a beautiful legacy. She was always admired for being full of love and gentleness. She was a supportive and loving wife, a strong and patient mother, a kind and gentle grandmother and an excellent listener to her friends.

Marg was phenomenal in the kitchen and passed those skills on to each of her children who all share her talents in either cooking or baking. If you were lucky enough to be invited for a meal, you were in for a treat! You were guaranteed to never leave her house hungry and without many containers of leftovers to go.

Marguerite also had an eye for fashion and was always dressed impeccably. She loved bright colors and had quite the collection of shoes. You rarely caught her without lipstick. Her granddaughters have many fond memories playing dress up in her closet.

Most importantly, Marguerite was a devoted Christian. She was a proud member of First United Methodist Church of Maumelle for over thirty years. She supported her husband as he found areas to lead and serve and made close friendships with women in her Bible studies and Sunday School classes.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Maumelle on Tuesday, July 18th at 10 AM. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you send any donations to the Alzheimer's Association of Arkansas,11300 N. Rodney Parham Road, Suite 200, Little Rock, AR 72212 . Donations may also be made to Church of Maumelle, PO Box 13834, Maumelle, AR, 72113.

Dear Sahene family, what incredible parents you were blessed to call Mom and Dad. They were always wonderful people that I loved and admired. Barney was the man that gave every single day. He would deliver flowers and sometimes cheese from his trunk. He shared everything he had. His beautiful bride always had welcome advice. Marguerite had the quiet wisdom that only comes from above. I was fortunate to call them both friends. I loved them and miss them but will carry their hearts, humor, wisdom and graciousness with me always. What a legacy they left for so many.
Much love to you all,
