April 5, 1934 - June 20, 2023

Kathleen Sue Callihan O'Neal, 89, passed away June 20, 2023 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born April 5, 1934 in Shawnee, OK, the middle child of Esther and Cal Callihan.

A life-long learner, Katie graduated high school in 1952 from Ada High School where she was class president. She earned degrees at William Woods University in Fulton, MO; East Central University in Ada, OK and the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. In 1954, she married Judge O.H. "Pat" O'Neal.

Katie had a 41-year career as a grade school teacher in schools in Tulsa, OK, and Alexandria, LA. She and Pat moved to Hot Springs Village, AR in 1994 where she was the voluntary art teacher at Jessieville Elementary School.

Katie was an avid reader. She especially liked biographies and historical books. She was a wonderful seamstress and made many of her children's and grandchild's clothes. She also enjoyed making quilts and always had some special project in the works.

Katie loved playing golf, bocce, pickleball and bridge. She was a master gardener. For several years she was the miniature train conductor at Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, one of her favorite places.

She loved to travel around the world. One of her favorite memories was a 10-day Danube River cruise with her daughter, Rachel. Other memorable trips included London, Venezuela, Paris, Cannes and many more.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Pat O'Neal and her daughter, Jennifer O'Neal. She is survived by her daughter, Rachel O'Neal and her husband, Clark Feezell; her son, John O'Neal and his wife, Susan; her grandson, Calvin Chaney; her brother, John Callihan and his wife, Peggy and her sister, Mary Callihan.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Fox Ridge Senior Living, Briarwood Nursing Home and Arkansas Hospice.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 24 at Mount Holly Cemetery in Little Rock. A reception will be held at the home of Rachel and Clark immediately after the service.

She touched the lives of many and will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. We will love her always.

Hello, Rachel. I am not a member of FB, so I shall post a message here. I am your MHS classmate. I am thinking about you, your brother, your family. I am sorry for your loss. Your mom was so nice. I recall seeing her cycling on her bicycle through the neighborhood (Alexandria) also to and from the neighborhood school. I would be outside. She would always stop, smile, and chat.
She loved her family.

Rachel, your Mom was certainly a product of her "depression era" generation; a rock strong constitution and a great spirit! What an inspiration she was. She will always be with you, as she is alive in your heart every day. Love and comfort to all.
