of Kingwood, TX

April 9, 1948 - May 7, 2023

Joe Long, aka, Lowell M. Long, of Kingwood, TX, a graduate of Perryville High School Class of 1966, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, after a long struggle with Type 2 Diabetes and it's complications. Joe was born April 14, 1948, to Curtis and Letha (Walton) Long. Joe graduated from Arkansas State University in 1970, with a degree in radio and television broadcasting. He was one of the founding members of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. His first career job was at a radio station in Paragould, AR. Broadcasting sports, play by play, and selling advertising for a few years. However Joe went on to have a great sales career for over 30 years with Colgate Palmolive. Joe was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and he loved hunting and golf.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife Vanita Long in 2000; brother, Van "Alen" Long in 2016 and sister, Mary Anthony (Toni) Gray in 2013.

Those left to cherish his wonderful memory are his sons, Joey Long and Josh Long; daughter, Alex Stephens McDuffie; grandchildren, Madeline Long, Mallory Long, and Deacon Stephens; brothers, Dr. Curtis W. Long; sister, Carol Long Sturdevant; nephews and nieces, Curtis W. Long Jr., Kent A. Long, William A Long, Christine G. Long, Kimberly Long, Andrew W. Gray and Guy "Clark" Sturdevant; great nephew, Cayman Long; great nieces, Moorea Long and Gemma Long.

A celebration of Joe's life will be Friday, May 19, 2023, 4:30 pm at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W. Washington Ave, Jonesboro, AR.

Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 3:00 pm.
Burial will be Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 11:00 am, in Crystal City, MO.

The family's wish is that no flowers be sent and ask you to please make a memorial in honor of Joe's memory to the Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Arkansas State University.

Joe was very dear to us and we will miss talking and texting to him. It has always been a joy to be with this guy and talk and laugh. We have had many years of family times with him, Vanita, Joey and Josh. Prayers for Joey and Josh and other family members.
