Stan C King

of Little Rock, AR

February 18, 1948 - April 27, 2023

Stanley C. King, 75, of Little Rock passed away on April 27, 2023 from cancer. Born into a large and loving family on February 18, 1948 in Warren, Arkansas he was the son of Betty Sue Jones King and Robert Turner (Bob) King. When he was in junior high school, the family moved to Pine Bluff, where he graduated from high school and subsequently graduated from Henderson State University with honors in Business Administration.

Stan is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann King; loving sister, Mary Lou King; (and sister by choice, Jayme Dissly); daughter, Jennifer Metheny (Dave); three granddaughters, Whitney Harris (J.R. Polk), Amber Spear (Zane) and Kendall Harris (Hayden Hambrick); stepson, Bryan Martin and stepdaughter, Brooke Mayfield Buckley (Sam Heard); their children, and her mother, Corinne Beard Kilbury; niece, Erin Trimble Gray and her children, Camryn Gray and Turner Gray. Stan was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Henry Turner King (Robbie Estelle ''Bobbie'') and William Wallace Jones (Nancy Aron).

Stan enjoyed a long career in Arkansas government starting with Children's Services and was appointed as the Chief Information Officer for the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, by three consecutive governors. In this role, he was responsible for the state's Child Support Information System, the Arkansas Administrative Statewide Information System and the Arkansas Integrated Revenue Systems. Valued for his leadership and expertise in organizing and managing complicated systems, he championed many progressive, yet fiscally beneficial Arkansas programs. At Child Support Enforcement, he updated protocols and technology to ensure Arkansas children received proper financial support to protect them from hunger and deprivation. A commendation for this work from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services resulted in federal accreditation worth millions of dollars. As head of the Office of Information Services, he oversaw protective security-based software development for the state.

Acknowledging these accomplishments, several states requested consultations with Stan and his brilliant team of developers in order to enhance their tech platform efficacy.

Colleagues reflecting on his life praised his skills, tenacity and leadership in managing hundreds of employees, including a large and diverse group of technical staff. To those who worked closest with Stan, he was an inspiration, a trusted leader and a loyal friend.

Many of Stan's friendships, cherished associations and accomplishments stem from his 30 years dedicated to preserving his own sobriety and sponsorship of others on the same journey through Alcoholics Anonymous. He worked tirelessly to assist anyone facing these challenges and left behind scores of friends for whom he was grateful and who were likewise thankful for his presence in their lives. AA was his lifeline and life: Unity, Service and Recovery.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cosmopolitan, #2323 Durwood Rd., Little Rock, Arkansas from 11 am to 1:00 pm on May 7, 2023.

Stan was a tremendous man, who will be deeply missed. He impacted many lives in very meaningful ways. I will always treasure Stan's friendship. At this sad time, I try to think of Stan driving his beloved Mustang Shelby GT (the GRABBER ORANGE one, of course) at full throttle. He brought peace and happiness and I wish that for now for all those that loved Stan. My deepest condolences to Stan's family.
