Frank Shubert Jr

of Gamaliel, AR

August 10, 1948 - April 19, 2023

Frank J Shubert Jr, 74, a resident of Gamaliel, Arkansas passed away in his home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Known by his friends as ''Franco'', Mr. Shubert was born on August 10, 1948 at Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois to Frank J Shubert Sr. and Rose (Defranco). He was raised in Berwyn, Illinois, where at a very early age, he became fascinated with automobiles and how to repair them. His passion for automobiles grew into a lifelong love and resulted in a career in the automotive repair industry. His biggest joy came from building, repairing and racing muscle cars. He was often heard saying, ''I can fix anything but a broken heart'' and I'm working on that!

He graduated from Morton West High School in Berwyn, Illinois in 1966. Frank married his high school sweetheart, Beverly (Vavrek) on April 20, 1968. Shortly afterwards, he opened up a gas station and full-service auto repair shop on the corner of East Avenue and 16th Street in Berwyn with his childhood friend, Albert Woodburn. He owned several other successful automotive repair shops before going to work at a Chrysler/Dodge dealership as a Certified Journeyman Mechanic. Mr. Shubert was a proud member of United Autoworkers Local 701.

Frank and Beverly moved to Gamaliel, Arkansas in 1999 to escape the rigors of city life. They were the proprietors of 101 Grocery, close to Lake Norfork, for several years before finally retiring.

Franco had many hobbies early in life including camping, fishing, hunting and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. What he enjoyed the most was getting together with friends and family to talk, listen to the oldies from the 50's and 60's and drink beer. He made many new friends in and around Gamaliel and Mountain Home, Arkansas. He enjoyed spending time and drinking a few cold ones with his new friends in his garage. He loved taking his family and friends on his pontoon boat on Lake Norfork.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly; their three children, Frank III (Susan), Mark, Tracy (Eric Magyar) and five grandchildren, AnnMarie, Frank IV, Kimberley, Tristan and Severus.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Roller Funeral Home.
