Lonnie Eugene TalbertI am a Veteran.

of Little Rock, AR

July 25, 1934 - April 14, 2023

Dr. Lonnie E. Talbert went to be with Jesus on Friday, April 14th, 2023, quietly in his sleep. He was born July 25th, 1934 in Bay, Arkansas. After graduating Leachville High School in 1952 (as the valedictorian), he joined the U.S. Air Force, was married to Lavern in 1953, graduated from ASU in 1956, then attended LSU and North Carolina State University for graduate work (Masters and PhD, in Agricultural Economics). Afterwards, he taught at Clemson University then ASU (becoming the Dean of the College of Business), retiring in 1998.

In his own words, ''This point in my journey occurred 64 years time-wise and about 12 miles distance-wise from the place I was born; where the saga all began.''

Closer to Lonnie's heart weren't his accomplishments, but his relationships. Most notable, of course, were his 69 years married to Lavern. He deeply loved his extended family. His sons, Gary and Mike, enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Jonesboro; and upon marrying wives (Heike and Tina, respectfully) and having kids of their own, the ''five grandkids'' made the perfect excuse for constant gatherings, trips, and memories for immediate and extended family.

He was a rock, a pillar, an oak tree with deep roots in Jesus. This is how people knew him and it's how he is remembered. His gifts of mercy and service came straight from his Shepherd, whom he cherished, displayed to the world, sowed into all who knew him, and whom he is with now, singing, singing, singing.

Lonnie died at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his son, Mike (61); and he is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lavern; his son, Gary (Heike) and daughter-in-law, Tina; his grandkids, Anja (and Clinton), Justin (and Megan), Nina, Jens (and Molly), and Tristan plus a quiver full of great-grandkids: Ella, Karsyn, Knixon, Roman, Soren, Aksel, Isen (and Tatum coming soon!).

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 20 at 11:30am at Cold Springs Events (9578 12th Street, Paron, AR 72122), followed by food and fellowship with the family.

Lavern and Family,

My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow. You and Lonnie are such dear friends and have missed our time of fellowship. Lonnie was such a great example of a real Christian and was the same everywhere you saw him. I can just imagine the reunion he and Ron are enjoying together. I know they are singing His praises. Love you dearly and will be praying the Lord gives you peace and comfort. With love, Linda Erwin

Meeting you both at Southern Baptist College in the summer of 1980 changed the trajectory of my life. A masters degree, a doctorate and a teaching position that I have enjoyed for 38 years. Love to you Lavern and prayers for peace and comfort. He was the finest man!!

I remember him reading the scriptures for us before his grandson Justin preached his first sermon at C3. I real treasured memory. His love for the Lord and his Justin was so evident!
