Clarence "Trey" Paul Crawford, III

of Little Rock, AR

November 27, 1959 - April 13, 2023

Clarence Paul ''Trey'' Crawford III, 63, of Little Rock passed away April 13, 2023. He was born November 27, 1959 in Greenwood, Mississippi to C.P. and Mary Crawford. Trey spent decades in the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest circuit. He was crowned the World Champion for the first time in 1976 after qualifying earlier that day in the Arkansas State Contest. Trey was also a Senior in high school and won the Chick and Sophie Major contest that weekend as well. He is the youngest caller to ever win the World Title winning his first on his 17th birthday. Trey would go on to win World's ten years later in 1986 and then again in 1993. Upon retiring from the World's Contest in 1993, he would go on to win Champion of Champions in 2000 closing out his career as a competitive Main Street Duck Caller. Trey is also a 3-time Arkansas State Champion. He won a World's title in 3 separate decades. Trey would win the Champion of Champion title in the following decade so his success in the duck calling circuit spanned 4 decades. This proved that his calling style withstood the test of time, something no other caller has done. He would continue giving back to the sport by volunteering his time to judge contests and mentor other callers coming up the ranks. Trey was naturally a revered caller and very well known for his feed call. His call was strong in all parts of his routine, but his feed call set him apart. On April 13th, we lost another legend in the duck calling world. According to his peers, his call in the woods was just as strong. He will certainly be missed and the legacy he leaves will not soon be forgotten.

Trey is preceded by his parents, Mary Crawford and C.P. ''Tiny'' Crawford and brother, Eddie Crawford. He is survived by his son, Charles Crawford (Chelsey); daughter, Caitlyn Crawford; sister, Candy Wilkerson Anderson (Donny); nephew, Blake Wilkerson; niece, Katie Crawford and numerous cousins.

The family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice for their loving care of Trey, especially Jamie and Alex. They would also like to thank Dr. Edward Cho, Assistant Professor of Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgery, OU Health Physicians for his above and beyond care of Trey. They developed a special friendship during his illness.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm, Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Arkansas Waterfowl Association, 8088 Hwy. 31 North, Lonoke, Arkansas, if you hunted with Trey or competed with him, please bring a duck call. Party following the memorial service at 4110 Carter Lane, Little Rock, bring a lawn chair.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in Trey's name to the Trey Crawford Memorial Scholarship Fund https://gofund.me/32ba91c2

Trey will always be remembered for the fun, loving , giving man to so many people he met along life’s journey. . I met you through mutual friends and my ex husband, Johnny Mills years ago when we were in high school. Trey always had a smile and a unique laugh. He invited us many times to eat dinner when his Mom fixed duck and stuffing, duck and almonds etc. Trey’s Mom was a great cook and I never liked duck and the only time I would eat it was when she prepared it. I always felt welcome by you and your family. I was sad to hear of your illness and of your passing. Treybo Crawford lived life to the fullest. I pray for your family and close friends to have strength during this difficult time of loss. May you rest in peace.

O TreyBo,, what a life we lived. The borrowed/stolen suv from your Mother to go to Chris Bolton’s wedding in ALBQ NewMexico with Charlie Thornton, Scott Mize, Me and U. was CRAZY. Wouldn’t trade it for a million $$$$.

Trey, I only found out the day before you died that you were even in a bad way as I don’t get on FB a lot here lately. It broke my heart to hear the news when your Sis messaged me the next afternoon. I know that you are now at peace and with our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Will always remember the good times in NLR. Love ya, ol buddy.

My best friend gave me one of Trey's handmade calls. It immediately made me sound good! I called Trey to get more reeds and corks. When he found out I was living in Alexandria, VA, he said he'd just bring them to me when visiting his daughter (very proud of her Judge Advocate job). We met outside of a Chilli's and he tuned up my calls, talked about ducks, and complimented my black lab. It was a true dream come true to have someone of his caliber consult on duck hunting. He said what really turned him on was calling at some greenheads and see them swing to him, craining their necks looking for HIM! I tried to pay him back by inviting him for pheasant hunt in SD but he was usually chasing the migration down the flyway. Trebo was a great man, great hunter, great friend - someone I was proud to know, someone I wish I could have spent more time with. Someone who earned his spot in the best blind in heaven.

Trey, you will be missed, you were a natural, and a good man.
I will never forget selling guns, telling jokes and lies at Sports City USA back in the 80's! To your family, I send my deepest sympathies...Trey was a good friend, colleague, and definitely the most talented callers I ever heard. We had a lot of good times!
The management at the store didn't care for his calling while working, but I can promise you, Trey sold a truckload of calls for them.
Be at Peace and Rest Brother, you will be missed!
