November 24, 1926 - April 11, 2023

Frederick B. Clark, 96, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023. He was born November 24, 1926 to Ben and Corine Clark in Quitman, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents and his brother, Harry.

He entered Hendrix College at age 16, then transferred to the University of Arkansas to study electrical engineering. His studies were interrupted by his 2 years of service in the U.S. Navy, six months of which he served as Electronics Technician's Mate III on a radar picket ship, the USS Hanson, in Sasebo, Japan.

After discharge, he returned to the U of A and received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1949. Upon graduation, Fred joined Arkansas Power and Light, retiring after forty-two years of service.

He and Margaret Lea Swafford were married July 30, 1950 in the chapel of First Methodist Church in El Dorado, Arkansas. They were blessed with three children. Vance Clark (Lorena), Kathy Mesko (Allan, deceased) and Pat Cheatham (Darrell); as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

After retirement, Fred spent much of his time as Coordinator and Instructor for SeniorNet of Little Rock, a volunteer organization teaching the use of computers to senior citizens. He was always eager to lend a helping hand to his family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.

A visitation will be held at 1:00 Saturday at Roller Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 I-30 in Little Rock with a graveside service at 3:30 at the Quitman Cemetery.

Fred was a great guy and will be missed. We worked together in the old AP&L general office Sales Department. A true gentleman in every sense of the word.

I worked with Mr. Clark in the Marketing Department of Entergy (then AP&L) in the late 1960's and early 1970's. He was hard working and nice to everyone.

Fred and I worked together at AP&L/Entergy. He taught me a lot, and I valued his friendship greatly. He will be missed by his fellow retirees.

I had the pleasure of working with Fred at AP&L/Entergy. He actually worked "for me" for a while, as I was his supervisor. I always looked at it more as he worked with me. I learned much more from Fred than he would have learned from me, but his experience, engineering expertise, and work ethic made him a pleasure to supervise. I emailed Fred a couple of years ago to say hello and just check in. As always, he promptly responded with a "good to hear from you, Jack". So long for now Fred.
