Linnie Dodge

December 9, 1933 - April 9, 2023

Linnie Lou Murchison Dodge was born December 9, 1933 in Coy Arkansas to BF and Corrie Murchison. The family relocated to Hot Springs in 1941 where Linnie graduated from high school and went on to graduate from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Linnie was an avid lover of the outdoors and all kinds of sports. She was a summer camp counselor, a swimming instructor and lifeguard. She loved to snow ski and was an excellent tennis player. Linnie was a great mother for her two boys serving as their den mother in boy scouts and making sure they were exposed to the outdoors and sports.

She was married to Dr. John Dodge for fifty-seven years, until his death in 2013. While attending the University of Arkansas, Linnie was a Razorback cheerleader and president of the Chi Omega women's sorority where she gained life-long friends and remained a great supporter for her entire life.

She, John and her two sons settled in Texarkana, Texas until John retired from his medical practice. They then moved to Parkway Village in Little Rock in 2012. While in Texarkana, Linnie was president of the Junior League and very active in the tennis community. More than anything, Linnie loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served Him faithfully to the end of her life. She was generous and kind and demonstrated the love of Christ to all who knew her. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Texarkana and more recently, Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Dodge; her brother, Thomas Murchison (Florence) and her sisters, Mary Graham Hunter (Bill) and Betsy Bowers.

She is survived by her brother, Frank Murchison of Albuquerque New Mexico (Gwen); her brother-in-law, Sonny Bowers; her son, John Dodge Jr. and John's children, Laurin Dodge Guinee (Phillip), John Dodge III (Hannah), Nicole Dodge and Alexis Dodge. She is also survived by her son, Benjamin Dodge (Julie), their children, Kate Dodge Perry (Brandon) and Drew Dodge. She has four great-grandchildren: Jaden and Ellie Perry and Isaac and Luke Guinee and many, many friends and extended family.

Linnie passed away Easter Sunday morning, April 9, 2023 in Little Rock Arkansas.

She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed, but we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We know that through our Lord Jesus we will be reunited with her in glory someday.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 10:00-11:30am. A graveside service also for family and friends will be held at Graceland Cemetery, 2122 West Pullen Street, Pine Bluff Arkansas at 2:00 pm. on Friday April 14, 2023.

My prayers are with the family. I will always remember Aunt Linnie as a beautiful sweet lady. Her voice was so soft but you always wanted to listen. The respect I had for her will never be forgotten she was a great example to all those who knew her. She probably never knew it but just watching, listening and learning about Aunt Linnie taught me so much about the presentation of a real LADY.

My wife and I are thinking of and praying for you in this time. We went to church with Mrs. Dodge and Dr. Dodge for many years at FBC Texarkana, and have such fond memories of both of them. Mrs. Dodge always had such a sweet spirit. We will miss her but know that she is with her Lord and Saviour now in Heaven!

Sincere condolences to your family. I am so very sorry for your loss. May God provide the necessary peace and comfort to your family and friends during this difficult time. Please remember these words of encouragement from the Bible: “ Jesus plainly told her: “I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” —John 11:20-25.
