March 11, 1935 - March 28, 2023

David C. Potter, 88, passed peacefully to the Kingdom of Heaven on March 28, 2023. David was born on March 11, 1935 in White County, Illinois to Samuel Chester and Ellen Jane Potter. A gifted multisport athlete, David particularly excelled at basketball, with his 1954 Grayville High School team advancing to the state sectionals. Following high school, David enlisted in the United States Navy and later pursued a career in electrical wholesale, where every customer became a friend. He married Daisey V. Elmquist on June 29, 1957 and they had one son, David Brian Potter.

Following Daisey's death on June 16, 1997, David married Shirley J. Mueller on October 10, 1998 with whom he would spend the rest of his life. They settled in Clinton, Arkansas and enjoyed a quiet, country lifestyle. David had many interests, including hunting, fishing, boating and horse racing, but his passion was college basketball. Although an avid University of Illinois football and basketball fan, there was no game that David did not enjoy.

David was a thirty-second degree Master Mason and a member of Central Lodge #71 in Springfield, Illinois. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps. A generous and charitable man, David often contributed to worthy causes, such as the Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota.

David is survived by his son, David Brian Potter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and stepsons, Keith and Michael Hinman and stepdaughter, Sherry Simmons all of Martin County, Florida. His beloved wife, Shirley, followed him to eternity one hour after his passing. A celebration of life will be held during the annual Potter Family Reunion in August.

A special thanks to all of those who so lovingly cared for David and Shirley and kept them comfortable during their final days.
