Joe Grummer

of Conway, AR

March 25, 1947 - March 15, 2023

William (Joe) Joseph Grummer was born March 25, 1947 to Andrew and Bonnie (Wilcox) Grummer in Morrilton, Arkansas. Joe attended St. Joseph Catholic School 1st -12th grade, where he played basketball. While he attended college at State College of Arkansas, now known as UCA, he put himself through college by working part time at Kroger after school hours and delivered newspapers for the Log Cabin Democrat before going to school. Prior to Joe getting married to Clara, his family raised Black Angus Cattle. On August 10 1968, Joe married Clara Mae Atchley, his High School sweetheart.

Joe was one of a kind! He was a good husband and my best friend. We were married 54 years and did everything together, including building Harlan Mobile Home Park in 1972. At that time, we lived in St. Louis, MO and Joe taught business education, but we moved back to Arkansas to start a new chapter in our lives and it was the best decision we made.

Joe taught Business Education for over thirty years and retired in 2011. Joe and Clara loved sports, especially watching the Arkansas Razorbacks play and going to Southland and Oaklawn. Joe was a ''go-getter'' and ''worked'' hard. He was soft-spoken and you never heard him speak a bad word. Joe loved all animals, especially their dog, Bud.

Joe is survived by his wife, Clara (Atchley) Grummer and brother, Ed (Sue) Grummer and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Wally Grummer.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Arkansas Hospice and Intrepid Healthcare for their loving care, especially Tyler and Tammy.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Faulkner County Animal Shelter or any animal rescue of your choice.

Joe was a very special person. I never heard him say a discouraging word. He loved his wife dearly and did everything he could to support and show her love. I was always impressed with his quiet, gentle manner. I know many people will feel his loss.

We were very sorry to hear that Joe passed away. I always enjoyed when he came into our office to discuss his insurance business and that he always made us feel that he so trusted us to take care of it for him and Clara. He was super smart with about any subject we discussed and we did discuss much more than just the subject of insurance. He will be missed greatly and remembered always by us. Our prayers and thoughts are for Clara and all of Joe's family left grieving. God Bless you all and RIP JOE.

Joe was a good brother-in-law. He was in our family for 60 years. I was 5 when Clara and joe started dating. He always took time when we were small, to play games with us on rainy sunday afternoons and would bring my twin and I doublemint gum. He was ahead of his time on that, later doublemint made a commercial with twins and that gum. Joe and Clara would make sure we went to see fireworks. He loved to play jokes on the family. He loved to see our reactions. He loved my moms carrot salad and she knew it and would have it when we all got together. He was kind and soft spoken. We will miss him! Love his sister-in-law. Linda
