Barbara M. Murray

of Conway, AR

March 11, 1932 - March 9, 2023

Barbara M. Murray of Conway joined her heavenly home on March 9, 2023 when she peacefully passed away with her daughter by her side. She was born on March 11, 1932 in Gainesville, Missouri and was raised in the Branson, Missouri area, where she graduated from The School of the Ozarks when it was a high school, now known as The College of the Ozarks.

After residing in Illinois, she returned to Ava, Missouri where she began an over twenty-year career at Wal-Mart in Missouri and Arkansas. She then retired and moved to Conway to be near family. She excelled in making quilts, spent many hours devoted to this craft and was a member of many quilt guilds. Her collection of teapots was also a passion, as she collected close to two hundred over the years. She was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church in Conway, which she faithfully attended until her failing health.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dessie Frye; husband, Orville Murray; sister and her husband, Joe Ann and Jim Spurlin and son, Richard Stadler.

She is survived by a daughter, Betsy (Rodger) Smith of Conway; grandsons, Ryan Smith of Hendersonville, TN, David (Anna) Smith and Benjamin Smith (Catherine Demailly) all of Conway; granddaughter, Melissa (Joe) Cascio of Illinois; grandsons, Tavian and Dillon Smith of Indiana; great-granddaughters, Charissa Cascio of Illinois and Andee Vick of Arkansas. She is also survived by one niece, Jill Spurlin Williams and nephews, Jeff and Joe (Rhonda) Spurlin all of Missouri.

Included are also special relations, Tina Leach, Amy Carling, Brian Hord, Chrissie Hord and devoted friends, Claire Duderstadt, Pat Blencowe and Viola Altstatt.

Services will be on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, with visitation at 1:00pm and services at 2:00pm, with Deacon Bob Morris of Peace Lutheran officiating.

Barb was the most amazing and talented person I have ever known. My heart breaks for all of us who knew and loved her. I miss everything about her. But I am sure she is making a beautiful heavenly quilt and is reunited with Rick & family who went before her. I feel so blessed to have known her and to have been a small part of her family.

Barb had such a sweet spirit. It was a joy to visit with her on Sunday mornings. She was so talented and I enjoyed seeing the things she made especially the clothes she made and wore. She was a woman of faith and I look forward to seeing her in heaven.

So sad to hear of Barbara’s passing. She was a sweet lady and so skilled in quilting. Barbara was one of the first members I met at Cabot Nimble Thimbles and was most welcoming. Prayers for her family and friends.
