October 8, 1935 - January 11, 2023

Baalyis Carrol Herring, 87, of Quitman, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. On October 8, 1935, Baalyis Carrol Herring was the second twin born to Ernest Thurlow and Mary Cordelia Langston Herring.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Chandler; grandson, Nathanial Gatliff; four other grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, that he didn't get to meet until he entered heaven. His twin brother preceded him in death, as did five of his sisters; Lola Kennedy, Clestine Goodwin, Mary Lois Clark, Nina Bess Hoggard and Menta Fay Skinner.

Carrol is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Joan Herring. He is also survived by sons; Brent (Brenda), Steve, Claude (Paula), and James (Debbie) and daughter, Martha Gatliff; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Willie May Karber and Ernestine Mauldin, and one brother, Burton Herring Sr., as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Carrol loved his family and welcomed every opportunity to gather with them. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved watching him play the piano, even sitting beside him and joining in the playing with him. He taught them how to play chess, anagrams, and dominos. He was always available to answer their countless questions and he never made them feel silly for asking. He loved to fish and when his health permitted, he would go fishing as often as possible. He wrote and composed over 180 hymns, loved puzzles and games, and if he ever had the chance, would tell you a good dad joke.

He was faithful member of the New Home Missionary Baptist Church in Quitman, where visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023, from 9:00am 10:00am, with a service to immediately follow. The family will then lay him to rest at the Old Texas Cemetery, Guy, Arkansas.
