Boyce (Bobby) L. Hogue was born on March 26, 1939 in New Albany, MS to Boyce and Lena Garrison Hogue. He left this life on January 2, 2023. Bobby graduated high school and attended Northwest Mississippi Junior College in Senatobia, Mississippi; in 1959 he transferred to Arkansas State University on a football scholarship. He graduated from ASU with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture and an MSE and an EDS degree in School Administration. He worked as a coach and administrator in Kennett, Piggott and Jonesboro Public Schools.

He began his insurance career in 1979 and was elected to the Arkansas House in the same year. Bobby served as an Arkansas State Representative for 20 years while maintaining his business. During his legislative career Bobby served as House Speaker for two consecutive terms. He also served as the National Chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council during this time. Following his legislative service, he established a lobbying business, Bobby Hogue & Associates, from which he retired in 2013. A lifelong Methodist, he remained active in the Jonesboro Regional Chamber and in the Jonesboro Exchange Club so long as his health allowed.

Bobby was an ardent fan of traditional archery and enjoyed spending his leisure time outdoors, hunting, fishing, travelling and camping with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie, of the home; daughters, Michelle (John) Brown and Lauren (Richard) Grantham of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Elizabeth Brawner of Wynne, Jackson Harmon, Hayden Harmon, Keats Grantham and Cooper Grantham of Jonesboro; niece, Pam (Donnie) Durley of Como, MS; lifelong best friend, Gene Smith, of Lake Cormorant, MS and close family who provided special care and comfort during his extended illness, Jimmie Sneed and Eddie Burris. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his sister, Phillis Grehan.

Visitation is scheduled for January 5, 2023 from 5 to 7pm at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Other services are private. For any memorials, the family suggests the NEA Food Bank, PO Box 2097, Jonesboro, AR 72402 or the NEA Humane Society, 6111 East Highland, Jonesboro, AR 72401.

I am saddened to learn of Bobby’s passing. Always considered him family. I was one of his office girls in 1969. He was one of the nicest and most considerate teachers at JHS. My condolences to his family. Prayers going up for you.

I knew Bobby from years ago, and like others who have left messages, our common interest was archery.

I also remember Bobby as being very personable-a good trait for life and politics.

While he was involved in politics, I remember saying to him, humorously, "you're as close as I have ever come to knowing someone important."
Rest in Peace

Mr. Hogue was my Principal at JBR High School for number of years when I was a faculty member there. He was a valued leader, and our working relationship was civil. While serving as an Arkansas congressman , he nominated me as the peeson to fill a vacancy on the ASU Board of Trustees.
My nomination was accepted, and I was in turn sworn into the position. I am grateful to him for affording me that opportunity to begin what became a lifetime of public service. My sympathies are being expressed to his family.

Condolences to Bobby's family. Bobby was a fine man, and archer. Bobby was the assistant principal at JHS when I got there in '72. I remember the presence Bobby presented when doing his school duties. His presence demanded respect. I got to know him personally in later years thru archery, and when he needed his vehicle repaired. I was fortunate to have shared a campfire with him in the mountains of Colorado while bowhunting elk and mule deer. I cherish the fact that I knew him. He's sharing a campfire now with the likes of Fred Bear and Ben Pearson who went before him. Rest in Peace, Bobby.

I remember Mr. Hogue from my junior year of high school. He was the principal at JHS that year and it always struck me that the seniors all liked and respected him. I never had an opportunity to get to know him personally, but I remember the impression he left and the confidence he exuded. Obviously a fine man and I wish I had known him better. May he rest in peace.

What a great person during my JHS days class of 1973. He was a great leader and example during those days. Then he became a well respected state legislator serving over 20 years a man you could trust. He could swing a mean wooden paddle, it made me a better young man. Thank you Coach for your service to Jonesboro and the State of Arkansas.
