May 25, 1933 - December 29, 2022

Peggy Ruth Tinsley Smith, 89, of Sherwood passed away December 29, 2022.

She was born May 25, 1933 in Clarkesville, Arkansas to John D. Tinsley, Sr. and Beulah Kilcrease Tinsley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Harrell and two brothers, John D. Tinsley and Powell D. Tinsley.

Peggy was a graduate of Clarksville High School and attended Ouachita Baptist University.

She was a surgical nurse at UAMS and was part of the pioneer kidney transplant team that performed the first kidney transplant in Arkansas.

After retirement, Peggy worked as a hospice nurse for several years.

Peggy was a member of Sherwood First Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher and worked on many committees for many years. She leaves a host of friends there.

She is survived by her son, Pete Smith and his wife, Shannon; grandchildren, Wesley Smith and wife, Sydney, Stevie Smith, William Smith and Peter Smith, who was also her caregiver, and his wife, Darby; great-grandchildren, Sable Smith, Mae Smith and Joanna Smith; one sister, Nettie Thompson; niece, June Fitzgerald, who was as close as a sister and several other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, especially Kelly and Stephanie.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 JFK Blvd, North Little Rock. Committal will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
