Mary Irene Opel, 92, of Memphis, TN passed away December 26, 2022. She was born October 7, 1930 to Earl Brewer Swan and Mary Floys Bynum Swan at Frys Mill (Marked Tree), Arkansas.

Mary Irene Opel is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Floys Swan; her son, Daniel Eugene Bunn and brothers, Curtis Irvin Swan, Earl Bee Swan and Kenneth Leon Swan. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Eugene (Gene) Opel, whom she married February 7, 1984. They were married for 38 years. Her children are Jerry Franklin Bunn, Phillip Earl Bunn, Mary Anita Bunn, Frank Alan Bunn, Nancy Irene Bunn Garavelli; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Carolyn Parks and stepson, Dennis K. Opel. Her family was second to God, her savior. She prayed daily for her family and friends.

She graduated from Marked Tree High School and attended Miller Hawkins Business School studying accounting. She was a full charged bookkeeper for 36 years, before retiring in 1992.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 25 years and served as Worthy Matron three times. She volunteered at White County Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas for 13 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Searcy, Arkansas; a member of United Methodist Women and actively participated in all of the church events. When she moved to Memphis, Tennessee she attended Trinity United Methodist Church.

A Visitation will be held at 1:00PM Friday, December 30, 2022 with Service to follow at 2:00PM. Interment will be at White County Memorial Gardens.
