Vernon Dale McGee

of Conway, AR

August 15, 1956 - November 25, 2022

Dr. Vernon McGee, 66, passed away peacefully in his home in Conway, Arkansas on November 25, 2022. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Bible Baptist Church at 3130 Dave Ward Drive, Conway, Arkansas. Visitation will be Friday, December 2 from 6-8pm. His funeral service will be on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 10am.

Dr. Vernon McGee was born on August 15, 1956 in Mobile, Alabama to Leon and Lida Fay McGee. He was raised in Hurst, Texas with his six siblings.

In 1977, Vernon began studying at Oklahoma Baptist College in Oklahoma City. He was called to preach at age 20 and obtained a degree for Ministerial Studies. While in college Vernon met the love of his life, Paula. He married his college sweetheart on March 24, 1982. Soon after, they started their own family. Naomi was born in 83, Rebekah in 84, Leon in 85 and Mary in 87.

In 1986, the McGee family moved to Brighton, Illinois where he served as the pastor of First Baptist Church for 15 years. In 2001, Vernon moved with his family to Conway, Arkansas to pastor Bible Baptist Church. He obtained his Doctoral degree by his Alma Mater, Oklahoma Baptist College in 2006. After serving the church and community for 15 years and having a major role in starting 2 new churches, Vernon and his wife, Paula, moved on to evangelism. He remained in the ministry for more than 40 years and was faithful until the end. Even when he was unable to travel due to kidney failure, he still prayed, counseled, encouraged and preached. He was known as the most compassionate and loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, pastor and friend. He truly had a heart for his family and the ministry, but above all else he loved his Savior. Vernon had an incredible sense of humor, he loved music, he loved singing and he valued the time spent with his family and grandchildren. Brother McGee had a peace about him that could only come from the Lord and his heart was always so full of gratitude. He consistently showed God's love through his own example of kindness, forgiveness and grace.

One of his favorite verses was:
Hebrews 11:6
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

He is survived by his loving wife, Paula McGee and children, Naomi (David) Meeks, Rebekah (Jon) Lauritzson, Leon (Aimee) McGee and Mary (Christopher) Lynn. Surviving him are also 18 grandchildren, JD, Esther, Benjamin, Sarah, Zachary, Matthew, Jacob, Noah, Jonathan, Michael, Andrew, Julianna, Ian, MacKenzie, Bailey, Ethan, Gabriel and Ellyana and still growing! He is also survived by siblings, Larry (Sharon) McGee, Kenny McGee, James (Susan) McGee and Philip McGee, as well as a host of other family members.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lida Fay McGee and his siblings, Leona Looper and Ginger Hodges. He was loved by many and will be immensely missed.

May the God of all comfort, comfort you all. 11 Corinthians 1:3,4 Bruce Rice, Doug Sisson and I were at the OBC dorms with Vernon. If my recollection is true, I saw Vernon and his wife to be, Paula, behind the dorm, spark. Those were great times under the ministry of Bro Jim Vineyard. May fruit about to your account.

We are so sorry for your loss. Naomi, I could watch your posts when you stayed with your dad at the hospital and see just how special your love for each other was. So glad you got to spend so much time with him at the end. That had to be very special to both of you. Praying for a peace to surround you and your family. Here to help anyway we can. Big hugs.

The loss here of such a great man of God is difficult, but per his teaching, If you have Jesus Christ as your Savior your time without him will only be brief. Loved to listen to Brother McGee preach and teach. Such a wealth of knowledge of the scriptures, and a great challenge left for each of us to strive for as Christians. Thank you Lord for giving him to us for this time.

There are no words that express our profound sorrow of the loss of Pastor McGee. A wonderful man of God. So humble, kind and so devoted to God, family and friends. We are happy that he is with the Lord, but we are sad because we wont be able to be in his presence here on earth. He will be sorely missed by all who knew this precious man of God.

Much love to my Sister in Love Mary Lynn & Family. Vernon was an incredible light, leaving this earth much to soon. His smile and love for others overtook a room when he entered. May we remember the light and love he has left behind. He was truly an inspiration in living sacrificially for others that we can all aspire to! He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

Such a blessing he was to my family and our church family. He often would text me very early in the morning to say he was praying for me and my wife that day. He often posted Scripture to social media and personal texts. A great encouragement and Godly example to everyone he met. He was a humble man and lived for God. He will be greatly missed.
