This hits me hard as I am sitting here. I worked as a clerical tech for the unit he seen patients on. I had several conversations and remember one where I was flustered and just called him Dr. Joe. I apologized, but was told it was fine, and made him feel like one of the guys. Guessing he may have needed that at the time also as our levels were very high. I appreciate you being one of the few who took time to be "one of the guys" sir. You have changed the life of this man, and I am sure countless others. You are missed sir.

I close my eyes & imagine chatting with Joe in 1968 in the Drama Building at the St Mark's School of Texas in Dallas. He had a gift for being social in an empathetic way. No wonder that he turned it to the greater good as a psychologist. RIP my fellow Marksman.

Joe and I attended St. Mark's and graduated together. The years took us in different directions, but I do remember his ability to pursue any topic of interest to a deep level, as well as his even temper, qualities he obviously brought to the practice of psychology. I offer sincere condolences to his family. May he live on in your hearts.

Joe was one of my friends at Hampshire. I loved being with him. He was always ready to laugh and to talk about interesting things. I learned about Willie Nelson and Bob Wills from Joe, also Tex-Mex food. We all loved Joe. He was just a great pleasure to have in any group. Funny, smart, easy-going, full of stories about Lubbock, and he could sing. I recently made an effort to find Joe because I never forgot what fun it was to talk to him, and I wanted to hear his voice once again. I'm so sorry I missed that. My heart goes out to you, his family and friends, who got to be with him, and now must be missing him acutely.

Joe Alford was a dear friend and trusted colleague. He contributed to the growth of the science and practice of Clinical Psychology in so many ways. As a leader in the field at the state and national levels Joe always exhibited a kind, thoughtful, and determined attitude that what is best for the patient, is best for the field. He will be missed, and my family offers sincere condolences to Joyce and other survivors of their family. Rest in peace my friend.

I am quite sad to hear of Joe's passing. He was a very talented psychologist and a wonderful person. I worked with Joe at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System and consulted with him later when he was at the State Hospital. He was a very bright, thoughtful and caring professional. It seemed like he could think and care more deeply than others. He will be missed. My heart goes out to Joyce and his family.
