October 22, 1927 - October 26, 2022

Geraldine "Jerri" Sutton Jacobs was called to her heavenly home on October 26, 2022. She was born on October 22, 1927 to John Henry and Lottie McCollum Sutton in Piggott, Arkansas. Jerri was one of eight children.

Jerri grew up in Corning, Arkansas and had many pleasant memories of her youth. At the age of sixteen, she traveled by herself to St. Louis, Missouri to obtain her Social Security card. She kept this card unlaminated her entire life. Jerri was a hard worker and had many jobs to help pay for her education. She picked cotton, worked in a grocery store and a local cafe. It was while she was working in the cafe that she met the love of her life, Jake Jacobs. Jake was working for GTE when they met in December of 1949. They dated for five months and then married. Their union lasted just over seventy and a half years until his passing on December 3, 2020.

In 1956, Jake and Jerri moved to England, Arkansas, where Jake continued to work for the phone company. Jerri was a homemaker and took care of her family. When they moved to England they lived just out of town. They moved to different locations until December of 1966, when Mr. Pat Henderson made it possible for them to purchase a house on Faver street. They lived in this home the rest of their lives along with the original faithful kitchen stove that is still producing many meals. England became home and the Jacobs developed many strong friendships with friends and neighbors they would soon call family. Special life-long friends were the Wood, Hall and Hillis families, as well as Judy Dykes and her family. There are many more families that they were blessed to have as friends. Jerri considered herself fortunate to have lived in England. She believed that if you ever lived in a place like England, you wouldn't consider moving. It didn't matter who you were or what you had, you would be loved and cared about. The Jacobs family had many hills to climb but never thought about moving. England was home.

Jerri took great pride in her family. As her children got older, she worked outside of the home doing various jobs. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills. If you were married in the seventies or eighties there is a good chance she made your wedding cake or catered your wedding. She worked as an EMT for the City of England for over twenty years and also worked for the local eye Doctor. Jerri loved people and was always willing to help those that needed it.

Jerri was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings. She was also preceded in death by two children. Her oldest daughter, Judy Jacobs Haydon, died unexpectedly in her home in Louisiana in 2018. Her youngest son, Joe Eddie Jacobs, was killed in a tragic accident in 1989. She is survived by one son, Billy (Laura) Jacobs; daughters, Jean Ann Finley and Jamie McGraw all of England. Daughter in law, Tammy (Tommy) Wilson of Lake Hamilton. Eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Five special nieces, Terry, Kathy, Betty, Brenda and Linda, as well as two special great nieces, Charla and Tiffany.

Jerri had many friends and loved to cook for them and entertain them. Every night you could find a crowd of friends and family gathered around the kitchen table enjoying a delicious home cooked meal followed by a game of cards or dominoes. Nick and Haley Hillis visited often and Jerri loved them and their children as her own. Leslie Triplett, Kyle and Stacy Jeans and Marshall Sladyen were her card playing buddies. These friends and her children provided great care and company for Jerri. The unconditional love of all these friends and family best exemplifies the little town of England, Arkansas.

She made the wedding cake for me and my late wife Lisa in 1986. She was a sweet lady that I will never forget. Her daughter Judy was a great friend of me and my sweet late wife. Prayers for Jamie and the rest of the family. My heart aches.

She was an amazing woman! Randy and I were privileged and blessed to sit at her table many times. She made everyone that came through her door feel like family! Her and Mr. Jacobs raised some fine children. They all have that same sense of loyalty that their mom and dad did. She will be greatly missed.
