Betty Ann Young Coles, age 85, of Southside passed away October 13 peacefully at home surrounded by family.
She was retired from the Independence County Library after 40 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her father, John L. Young and her mother, Georgia Sheffield Young; a brother, Bobby Young and a sister, Johnnie Jeffrey.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William L. (Bill) Coles; a daughter, Marie Phillips; grandson, Brian Phillips and his wife, Regiane; two great-grandsons, Riley Phillips and Murillo Costa; a sister, Kathy Varnell and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. She enjoyed hosting holiday dinners for her family, traveling with her husband after retirement (especially to the Smoky Mountains), reading the newspaper cover to cover and going out to eat with friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

Bill and family, I am so sorry to hear of Betty Ann’s passing. Betty was a great person who cared so much for others. She was a cherished high school classmate and I have fond memories of her well beyond those years.
