Carolyn Sue Shipman

of Mountain View, AR

July 31, 1946 - September 28, 2022

Carolyn Sue Shipman, 76, of Mtn. View, passed away on September 28, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Carolyn Sue Shipman was born to Albert Lee Rutledge and Virginia Pearl Rutledge on July 31, 1946 in Harrison, Arkansas.

Carolyn married Leon R. Reece Shipman on May 4th, 1973 after dating for many years. Four years later, they had their daughter, DeAnna Lea Collins (Shipman). Carolyn loved church and went when she was physically able to go. Carolyn has been a member of the First Baptist Church in Mtn. View, Arkansas since she was 12 years old.

Carolyn has worked in many places and has touched many lives throughout her career. Carolyn began her career as a classroom teacher, later as a mail clerk typist, and then for DHS for Stone and Van Buren counties for 9 ½ years by helping many children find forever loving homes. After her job at DHS, Carolyn began her job at Holiday Mountain Resort in 1981, as an office manager, for 34 years until health reasons arose with her husband and self. She began to work at Stone County Senior Citizen Center and Ozark Folk Center until she was diagnosed with cancer.
Carolyn loved being involved and helping others. She would often visit friends and family in the nursing homes, hospitals, and homes. She was a mother to many in the community. She loved with her whole heart and expected nothing in return.

Carolyn made lifelong friendships while she was involved with several clubs in Stone County: Ozark Scarlett Grannies (Red Hatters), Stone County Medical Auxiliary in which she is the elected treasurer of the gift shop and Stone County Historical Society since 1978.

Carolyn loved all things in life and never took things for granted. Carolynś hobbies were reading, collecting items, going to Sonic for a Sprite with her sister, Norma, and spending time with family.

Carolyn was preceded in death by both of her parents Albert Lee Rutgledge and Virginia Pearl Rutledge and husband Leon Reece Shipman.

Carolyn Shipman is survived by her daughter, DeAnna Lea Collins and son in law Robert Barnes Collins; grandsons: Tyler Randle Collins and Michael Reece Collins. She is also survived by her sister Norma Lee Woody and husband Ulyess Lee Woody; brother Tommy Albert Rutledge and Wife Robin Renee Rutledge. She is survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.

Visitation is Monday, October 3, 2022 from 1:00-2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 2:00PM with Brother Jason Ingram officiating. Interment will follow the services at Fifty Six Cemetery in Fifty Six, Arkansas.

Pallbearers are Kollin Kendrick, Josh Rutledge, Jamie Woody, John Batson, Bobby Batson, and Tyler Collins. Honorary pallbearer is Ulyess Woody.

Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas is in charge of the arrangements.

It is with a heavy heart that I offer my condolences to Deanna and her family for the loss of your Mother. Carolyn was very special to the Harris family as she did our family tree and educated us younger cousins on our family history. I will miss visiting with her, your Mother was a very special lady and will truly be missed and you can be proud of her service to many children and to Stone County and Mountain view Arkansas. To Norma lee and Ulyess and Tommy and Robin, I am so sorry for your loss. I also am so sorry I can not attend and be there for you and your families in this difficult time. The only comfort we have is her suffering is over and she put of a good fight and being the Good Christian Lady she was, she is now rejoicing with our Lord. My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of you at this difficult time. In Loving Memory of Carolyn Sue Shipman

So sorry for the loss of this wonderful cousin I grew up visiting Her mother, Virginia Harris Rutledge was my dad's sister. We spent MANY vacations, reunions, and such with them. She was just enough older than me to take me "uptown" to the square where my aunt and uncle owned a mercantile. So many wonderful memories. She will be missed.
