Lanny Howell Canady peacefully passed from this life on May 28, 2022. At his side were the love of his life and wife of nearly 60 years, Susie (Harvey), his daughter, Lisa, and his grandson, Nicholas Cox. Lanny and Susie began their married life in North Little Rock, lived in Mayflower from 1989 to 2004, when they moved to Maumelle to be closer to Nicholas and Lisa.

Lanny was born November 24, 1939, in Corsicana, Texas. He was the middle son of William and Blanche (Lanichek) Canady; younger brother to the late Bill Canady (Barbara) of Amarillo, and older brother to Tommie (Karen) Canady of Chicago.

Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he moved to Arkansas to live near his grandfather, the late Roy Canady, an attorney in Jacksonville. In 1961, he began work as a barber at Fort Roots VA Hospital in North Little Rock, retiring after 35 years. It was at Fort Roots that he met Susie and, for their first date, took her to a fish fry at the Jacksonville fire station where he volunteered. They were married June 22, 1962.

Lanny lived a full life through the many sports and hobbies he enjoyed, and the time spent with friends along the way. Ever-present in his life was his love for Susie, his family and home. He enjoyed bowling, ping pong and tennis. He was an avid bass fisherman on lakes all over Arkansas but could most often be found on Lake Conway where for many years he was a member and officer of the Lake Conway Bass Club. He was self-taught on the guitar and played beautifully. Together, Lanny and Susie became avid golfers and enjoyed many years playing and following the game together and with friends and, later, with Nicholas. Lanny began most mornings with coffee and a crossword puzzle.

At about the age of 45, Lanny received a gift from Susie - a blank canvas, paints and a brush. His doodling with pencil and paper went from just that to works of art on canvas. And so began his years as an amazing landscape artist, especially considering the scenes he painted came only from his mind. He traveled around the state showing and selling his works at art shows and county fairs.

His family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks many times over to the incredible staff at Hickory Heights Health and Rehab in Little Rock for the care and love given to ''Mr. Lanny'' during the final ten months of his life, and for seeing that ''Suzy-Q'' was never far away from him. Thanks also to Kindred Hospice who provided comfort and support to Lanny and his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch (''a shirttail to hang onto'') in Amarillo, Texas, the Arkansas Chapter of Alzheimer's Association, or to the animal rescue organization of choice. Lanny loved many dogs during his life, several he himself rescued.

Memorial service will be 3:00 P.M., Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel.
