Ruthanne Nash Murphy

of Little Rock, AR

February 2, 1949 - May 30, 2022

Ruthanne Nash Murphy, age 73 of Little Rock, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2022. Ruthanne grew up in the small (and sometimes very windy) town of Greensburg, Kansas with her parents, Truman and Maxine Nash and older brother, Rod.

After high school, she went onto Wichita State University and then to the Wesley College of Nursing. As a nurse, she lived in Kansas, Colorado, North Carolina and eventually settled in Little Rock, Arkansas where she earned her law degree. Ruthanne raised her two daughters, Sarah and Rachel, and went on to become a successful attorney. Eventually, she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Garrett, and gained two more children, Becky and Pat.

Ruthanne was a devout Methodist throughout her life and believed that her purpose was to be of service to others. She loved her family fiercely, and thought her grandchildren, Garrett, Emma, Hadley and Cooper were the best things since Coca-Cola. Ruthanne wanted to leave this world better than she found it and as a woman who was never easily deterred, that is precisely what she did.

A Celebration of Ruthanne's Life will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at St. James United Methodist Church. Ruthanne always said that she hopes guests will wear ''Happy Colors'' to her funeral, so please honor her request as you are able. The service will also be streamed live at https://stjameslr.online.church/.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ruthanne's name to your favorite animal shelter and or the Under the Bridge Ministry at St. James United Methodists Church.

I was so very sorry to hear we had lost one of God’s handpicked earthly volunteers. She was so amazing, and she and Jim have left this city a better place.
I’m sorry I couldn’t attend her service, but watched it online.

Ruthanne surely left her mark on the city of Little Rock through her legal work, advocacy for the homeless, and the many St. James ministries in which she particiated. I got to know her through the Under the Bridge ministry at St. James, which she and her husband Jim started. I am praying that her family finds comfort in knowing how mych she was loved by others. "Well done, my good and faithful servant."”
