of West Memphis, AR
March 3, 1931 - May 9, 2022
On May 9, 2022 the Lord called home Jimmy Rodgers Smith of West Memphis, AR. Jimmy was born in Joiner, AR on March 3, 1931.
Jimmy was a veteran of the United States Army. Serving as a Deacon, he was an active member of First Baptist Church of West Memphis for 39 years. His love for the Razorbacks, St. Louis Cardinals, gardening and golfing with his buddies Carl and Joe (who walked 9 holes regularly well into their 80's) was known by all around him. As a Babe Ruth League Baseball coach, Jimmy's teams won several championships. Jimmy always had an entertaining story to tell and his charismatic personality drew people to him.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Doris Evelyn Smith of West Memphis, AR.; daughter and husband, Jennifer and Kelby Blackard of Southaven, MS. Son, Robert Mark Smith of Culpepper, VA and grandson, Wesley Smith of Earle, AR.
Jimmy is preceded in death by parents, Frank and Nona Kinney and sister, Monte Staggs.
Jimmy's faith and kindness impacted all those around him and he will sorely be missed. He was a great Father and friend to all. And he never met a stranger.
I met Mr. Smith as a ten year old when he signed me up to play on his Patey’s Garage little league team. Tim Byrd, Stuart Mays, Steve Yablonski and I played together and Mr. Smith coached us to the city championship as 12 year olds. We practiced everyday from about 5:30 until dark. Many evenings he would load us up in the back of his truck and take us all home. Several of us played for him in Babe Ruth as well and won more championships. We loved playing for him and loved him like a second father. Our deepest condolences for your loss. You are in our prayers.
I am sorry to hear about the death of Jimmy Smith. I will always remember when he and Evelyn showed up in Victoria, MS for Mark's rasslin' match. It was a real hoot.
My prayers for the family.
Jimmy was one of a kind, never a dull moment when he was around. We became good friends when I lived in West Memphis. Condolences to all the family

I'm going to miss you grandpa, but I know you are in heaven smiling down. Thanks for all the memories, love, and laughs.
Mr, Jimmy was one of a kind for sure. The friendship and bond through the years with my daddy Carl was unbelievable. They always showed up and showed out. My prayers are with the Smith family as they face the difficult days ahead. I love you all.
