James E. Belt II, 78, of Marshall, Arkansas, formerly of Fairmont, WV, passed away unexpectedly in Marshall. He was born in Fairmont, WV, the son of the late James E Belt and Mary Virginia Fultz Belt.

He was a Methodist by faith and a former member of the historic Methodist Temple in Fairmont and was a 1961 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, Fairmont, West Virginia. Jim very proudly served in the United State Air Force, during which, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service by the Commander in Chief, Strategic Air Command; the Air Force Good Conduct Medal; the Outstanding Unit Award; the Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; the NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon; the Air Force Longevity Service Award; and the National Defense Service Medal. After an illustrious career of 20 years with the Air Force, he retired to Arizona where he was employed by Hughes Aircraft. He then again relocated to Petosi, Wisconsin to work for Avista Inc, an aerospace engineering firm. He finally settled in the hills of Marshall, Arkansas, which reminded him of his beloved state of West Virginia, always his home. He loved being in the mountains, the outdoors, and was very content to stay busy working outside or in his elaborate workshop as he was a very skilled woodworker as well.

Mr. Belt is survived by his loving children; son, James E. Belt III of Arkansas and his daughter JoAnn (Belt) Harffman and her husband, Robert of West Union, Ohio, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, John Belt and wife Cindy, Jack Belt and his wife, Becky of Callahan, FL, sisters; Janice Curtis of Morgantown, WV, Sue Cosco and her husband Frank of Fairmont, WV; loving Aunt, Barbara Mundell of Fairmont, WV; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
