Vance Lee Hubbard

of Conway, AR

November 20, 1932 - February 8, 2022

Vance Lee Renfroe Hubbard, age 89 of Conway, formerly of Marshall, Arkansas made her way to heaven on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 to join her beloved husband, T.P. Hubbard, Jr. and her first granddaughter, Dara Anne Cossey. She was born in Snowball, Arkansas on November 20th, 1932 to Mainord Theodore Renfroe and Effie Phillips Renfroe.

Vance attended both Snowball and Marshall Schools where she was an avid basketball player and Salutatorian of her class. After graduating high school in 1950, she and her sister, Zaleze Renfroe Sherill made their way to Washington D.C. to work at the Pentagon as a clerk typist for the government. She returned to Marshall, Arkansas to marry T.P Hubbard, Jr. on November 1st, 1952. They welcomed their first daughter, Lori Suzanne in 1956 followed by their second daughter, Julie Melissa in 1960. Vance worked at the local telephone company in Searcy County, but spent 37 years working alongside T.P. at his Shelter Insurance Office where they made many lifelong friends. She always put her family first in life. She doted on T.P. daily, lovingly caring for him in sickness and in health for over 61 years. She was happiest when she was cooking for people that enjoyed eating. Vance spent Monday nights for many years cooking a full spread for her grandchildren. She made sure that Dr. Ron Hubbard always had beans and cornbread, that Perry Chase had his chocolate chip cookies, and that everyone had her signature chocolate cake for their birthday. She was at every ballgame, play, band concert and Grandparents Day event for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren until in later years her health no longer allowed. She was always our biggest cheerleader, supporter and encourager in everything we did. Vance was a Christian all of her life. She never hesitated to ask someone if they were a Christian or where they went to church, whether it be a doctor's appointment or in the Dollar General. She enjoyed inviting others to join her at the Marshall Church of Christ or the Eastside Church of Christ in Conway and singing praises to the Lord any chance she got.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lori Suzanne Cossey (Brady) and Julie Melissa Smith; grandchildren, April Elizabeth Crowder (Jeffrey), Seth Taylor Cossey (Hayley) and Ashlee Maria Smith; great-grandchildren, Ava Edisanne Mathis, Dax William Mathis and Tate Patton Cossey; niece, Dana Gail Nicholas (Tom); and a host of extended family and friends.

Vance is preceded in death by her parents, Mainord and Effie Renfroe; her husband, T.P. Hubbard who passed away in 2013; granddaughter, Dara Anne Cossey; and siblings, James Brough Renfroe, Vernon Renfroe and Zaleze Renfroe Sherrill.

Funeral services for Vance will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 11th, 2022 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Morgan Bradley and Bro. Collie Shaw officiating. Singing will be led by Fred Ladd. Visitation will be 1:00 till 2:00 PM preceding the service. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Marshall, Arkansas where Vance will be laid to rest beside her husband, T.P. Hubbard Jr. Bearers will be Ronnie Beene, Keith Kuykendall, Clyde Woods, Jerry Stroud, Collie Shaw and Dr. Ron Hubbard. Honorary bearers will be J.R. Barnett and Randy Searight. In lieu of flowers at the families request donations may be made to Eastside Church of Christ, c/o Fred Ladd, 32 Jackie Lane, Conway, AR 72032.

I am going to miss this wonderful woman that I loved like she was another grandparent to me. There are so many great memories some of auctions where my sisters and me would argue over who would get to help her, at church where we would always get a little wave from across the isle if we were running late then a hug after the service, of her cheesey potatoe casserole she brought anytime we had a get together and so many more times or things that I just don't have the words for. Lots of love and prayers to everyone whose life Vance touched but especially for the family and friends that she thought of as family.

I have so many fond memories of Vance, as I spent almost every Saturday night of my junior high and high school years at her home with my best friend, Julie. She was a wonderful cook and her wit was unmatched. I can still see her sitting in her chair watching Happy Days on the television, chewing Red Man tobacco and twisting the back of her hair.😊 She always made me laugh and would say…. “You’re so sharp, you must eat razor soup for breakfast”! She and TP always treated me as a second daughter and I’m so grateful for the influence they had both had in my life. 🙏🏻❤️

My heart is heavy today with so many memories of Vance Lee, my second mother, and the many good times I had with her. I have eaten a truckload of her mini biscuits with the crispy tops and bottoms...a recipe I’ve never been able to replicate. She was a happy person with a ready smile. She will be missed, but always loved. Thank you for including me in your family.
