Thomas Clark Evans

of Little Rock, AR

March 23, 1948 - January 20, 2022

Thomas ''Tom'' Clark Evans, age 73, passed away on January 20, 2022 in Little Rock, AR with his family by his side.

Tom was born in 1948 to Horace and Cleo Evans in Dallas, TX. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He went on to attain a CPA certification and followed the family tradition of a banking career. In the late 70s, he moved to Arkansas to continue his work in public accounting, later returning to banking where he spent the remainder of his career. He then embarked on a new endeavor with his best friend as co-owners of Sir Speedy Printing until he retired in 2013. Tom embraced retirement with his wife of 28 years, Carolyn, as they travelled the country in their RV, never leaving their treasured dogs behind.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his daughters, Allison (John) Martin, and Ashley Evans, step-son Paul (Stephanie) Deeter, his grandchildren (Emerson, Leslie, Nathan, Ellis, and Max), sister Linda (Jim) Gillard, nieces Kathy (Russell) Bull, and Kim Freeman, nephew Paul Gillard, great-niece Molly Freeman, great-nephews Andrew Freeman and Ben (Chelsea) Thompson, and great-grandnephew and Evans namesake, Johnny Evans Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Horace and Cleo Evans.

Tom was known by family and friends for his kind, generous, and loving heart, but also for his fun loving personality. Always the light of the room, Tom kept his family and friends smiling and laughing with never ending anecdotes and his large personality. Often known as a big kid himself, Tom treasured spending time with his grandchildren as he shared their zest for life and positive outlook on the world. You could often find him throwing a football with his grandkids, telling them how amazing the Dallas Cowboys are, or showing them his latest magic trick. He was always so proud of all his grandchildren, and it brought him a huge smile when he discovered they had his ''math brain.'' He never knew a stranger and anyone who met him knew how genuine and caring he was. He was an active member in the Methodist Church throughout his life and most recently a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and New Directions Sunday school class. He served in his ministry by playing drums in the praise band, participating in the Children's puppet ministry, & providing videographic support. Tom's love of music began early in his life when he played drums in the Highland Park High School marching band. He continued his passion for music and rock & roll throughout the years as he and his friends formed a band playing in local venues. Tom left an impression on everyone he encountered and will be remembered by so many people for the wonderful ways he brought joy and laughter into their lives.

Services will be held 10AM, Tuesday, January 25th, 2022, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1700 Napa Valley Drive, Little Rock, AR 72212 and are available online for streaming at http://www.youtube.com/asburyumclr

Tom was one of my bosses at Pinnacle Bank and later BancorpSouth. He was tough but fair. He was always a big help and influence. He was one of a kind and I wish Carolyn and the family the best during this time and in the future.

Tom was such a special person … comfortable, fun, and good. Tom and I met several years ago when we both owned a Sir Speedy. We would get together every six months with other owners from around the country to share business plans, commiserate, encourage, and hang out as friends. Tom’s insights and humor always helped make these meetings something special. Shortly after retirement, Tom drove his Mustang to Green Bay so we could attend a Packer game together at Lambeau Field. While Tom was a Cowboy fan through and through, there was a bit of Cheesehead in there too. Nancy and I were very much looking forward to hosting Tom and Carolyn here again this Spring.

To Carolyn and Tom’s family … you and Tom are in my thoughts and prayers. I share your loss and know he loved you all very much.

Tom was the drummer in a little rock band I hosted a number of years ago in Hot Springs Village. He was funny and kind and didn't have a bad word to say about anyone.

He'll be missed by all who crossed his path.

Stuart.

Tom’s mischievous smile and bubbly cheer will be missed by all. Will remember throwing darts with him in our garage. Everyone applauded his goofy puppet shows at church. Tom left us too soon.

We have so enjoyed being part of the New Directions Sunday School class with Tom and Carolyn for almost a decade. He was very welcoming when we first attended ND SS class with my father-in-law, Richard. He made James' 40th surprise birthday party video several years ago. We had watched it again not long ago. Such a talented man. He showed Meri a magic trick with a napkin at lunch one day when she was about 6 years old. He had made a "ghost" that "flew" and she tried to replicate it several times until she got frustrated. :) She talked about it occasionally for several years. During both of my diagnoses with cancer, he always had an encouraging word to say. Once Covid disrupted life, Tom would add to Carolyn's SS class newsletters with Tom's Corny Corner. He had such a zest for life and was kind and funny. He will be so missed by us, and by Richard as well. With love, The Arnolds

As a high school friend of Tom's our relationship was necessarily truncated by life itself. But I remember him from High School as an energetic and positive person.

I was lucky enough to have one visit with him and Carolyn before Covid took over our lives as we knew it. It was a great visit. I regret that our paths didn't cross more often.

As a fellow Methodist I would say "May the lord lift up the Light of His countenance upon you, Tom, and Give you Peace.

Tom and I met in elementary school. We were in the percussion section of the Highland Park Junior High and Senior High Bands. He was an excellent drummer. He was a good person that I was blessed to have known. My condolences to Carolyn, Linda, and all of his family.
