Herbert Joseph Free was born June 23, 1926 in Mt Vernon, AR. He left this world January 14, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parent Almon and Ruth (Loyd) Free of Mt Vernon AR, his wife Ellie Earline (Bates) Free and a son Alvin Joseph Free, brothers Harold Free, JL Free, Carrol (Buddy) Free and sisters Cara Mae Carter, Venetta Pope.
Herbert leaves behind two daughters Sarah (Richard) Sellers of Mabelvale, AR, Sherry Free of Hazen, AR and son Ronnie (Lisa) Free of Conway. Grandson Micheal Hightower (Lynn) of Mabelvale, Granddaughters Brittany (Chris) Payne of Conway, and Rani Heinmiller of Hazen. Great Grandchildren AJ Hightower (Savanna) of Rogers, AR, Gage Payne of Conway, Riley Payne of Conway and Addilyn Heinmiller of Hazen.
Herbert was an avid Hunter and Fisherman and would reminisce about his adventures throughout his life with his buddies, but He loved most telling stories of deer hunting with his son Ronnie and fishing with his Grandson Micheal.
He was a member of the Romance Masonic Lodge of Mt Vernon and the Green Grove Masonic Lodge of Conway for over 75 years.
Herbert was a veteran of World War II. After leaving the Army, he was employed at the Safeway Stores Inc. and worked for over 30 years at their warehouse facility. While working at Safeway, he served as the Teamster Union Steward for many years. There he made life long friends.
He loved his extended family as much as his close family members and always looked forward to family get togethers, especially the yearly family reunion.
The family would like to extend a huge Thank You to Cristy and Lance Martin, and Cecil and Karen Hasley for their love and support over the last years.
Herbert was my great uncle. We always knew we would see him at family reunions. He loved his family and especially his children. He fought a long time to stay with you. He is missed.
Herbert Free was my great uncle, the younger brother of my late grandmother Clara Mae Free Carter. I remember going to family reunions in Burns Park as a kid and he was larger than life. I remember is big belly laughs, and how nice he was to me. Thank you, Uncle Free, for your service to our great country, and raising your family in a loving home.

Herb and my dad were good friends and they attended Enola School. They were classmates and were the same age in school. The graduation picture probably still hands in the main building at the school. I know it use to be there around the wall with other pics. We will miss his laugh and the jokes. Good to have known you Mr. Herbert!

Herbert was loved by so many and I was honored to call him my friend and brother. So thankful that several of us from the warehouse were able to visit with Herb shortly before he passed. I have lots of priceless memories of our times together. Prayers for all the family.
