Vinita "Nita" C. Jones

of Mountain Home, AR

January 17, 2022

Vinita (Nita) Clyde Ramey Jones, 92, of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away Monday morning, January 17th on her husband Stan's birthday. What an awesome gift. She was born in Oxford, Mississippi on August 25, 1929, to Burton and Marguerite (Wallace) Ramey.
Nita married Robert Stanley Jones on May 13th, 1951, in Marks, Mississippi, at the First Presbyterian Church. After marriage, she rode the train from Memphis to Seattle to join Stan who was stationed on the naval base located on Whidbey Island, Washington, during the Korean War. After a short stay in Houston, Texas, they moved back to Mountain Home where Stan owned and operated a dairy farm in Midway.
Nita is survived by her one son, Robert Stanley Jones, Jr.; two daughters-in-law, Carol Lynn Jones and Charlotte Jones; grandchildren, Elizabeth Talley, Marty and Stephanie Roach, Andy and Kenley Roach, Kelsey Jones and Justin, and Allison Summers; three great- grandchildren, Keltey, Everley, and Annabelle Summers; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons, Thomas Allen Jones and David Edwin Jones.
Nita was a very active member of First Baptist Church, Mountain Home, Arkansas, and a member of several organizations including Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of Mississippi, Daughters of the American Revolution, PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization), and an early member of the Coterie Club in Mountain Home. She also held a few careers through the years like the Bell Telephone. She recalled that her job there was to plug people into the right numbers and used a rolling chair to move back and forth as quickly as possible. She was a reservationist for The Eastern Airlines, a Librarian in Marks, Mississippi, and later at the Cossett/Goodwin library system in Memphis, Tennessee. She then was a Dental Assistant in Arlington, Texas for more than 20 years.
Several years later, Stan and Nita relocated to Marks, Mississippi, and operated a cotton and soybean farm of some one thousand acres. Later, they left the farm and moved to Memphis, Tennessee and then to Arlington, Texas, where they remained for some 20 years.
At retirement, they returned to Mountain Home in 1992 and bought back the same house they had built in about 1960.
After Stan's passing in 2010, Nita remained in Mountain Home where she had many friends; some she had known her entire life. She moved into Cedarhurst Independent Living in 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she could be closer to family. She made many friends there and loved them dearly.
A visitation will be Saturday, January 29, at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral following at 10:00 a.m. in the Roller Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Mountain Home Cemetery.
Pallbearers are; John Jones, Mike Isom, David Tramell, Marty Roach, Andy Roach and Bobby Hill. Mrs. Jones' Honorary Pallbearers are; Dan Edge, Ken Dixon, John Gowen and George Gray.
Arrangements are under the care of Roller Funeral Home. Click here to visit the Roller Funeral Home website and sign the guest book.

So sorry to hear Nita had passed. We tried to keep in touch after she moved to Tulsa. And Sally Soderblom kept us up-to-date. But when Sally moved to Florida for good, we lost touch. God's blessings to the family for all the happy memories and love. Nita was a special Sister to us in P.E.O.

I only knew Stan and Nita, but she was such a nice, gracious lady when we were in Historical Society together, I'm sure she will be missed greatly.

Nannaw was a wonderful grandparent and will always be missed. My favorite memories of her will always be borrowing one of her white linen nightgowns when we would have sleepovers and sleeping in the always cool and crisp sheets that she would tuck me in to and singing in the car on our many car trips. I wish that I could have a spent more time with her these last years.

Love always,
Allie
