Ervin Lee CurtisI am a Veteran.

of Lead Hill, AR

November 3, 1932 - January 5, 2022

Ervin Lee Curtis was born on the farm in Lead Hill, Arkansas on November 3, 1932, and left this life on January 5, 2022, at the age of 89. Ervin was a faithful Christian, loving husband, devoted dad, and grandpa. He was a member of the Lead Hill Church of Christ in Lead Hill, Arkansas. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Sarah Cassie (Seay) Curtis; his sister, Bernice Curtis Weaver; his brothers Harl Curtis, Frank Curtis, Dean Curtis, and Burl Curtis.

Ervin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Johnie Pauline (Bailey) Curtis. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Leanna Curtis and Ronnie Honeycutt; his son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Carla McCutcheon Curtis; seven grandchildren, Sarah Honeycutt Martinez and her husband Terrell, Jamie Honeycutt Manor and her husband Randall, Dena Honeycutt, Chase Curtis and his wife Amelia, Lexie Curtis, Justin Millsap and his wife Amber, and Sarah Millsap; and seven great-grandchildren, Emma Martinez, Braylen Martinez, Tatum Martinez, MaKenna Millsap, Olivia Millsap, Emerson Millsap, and Jaxon Millsap.

Ervin served his country in the United States Navy for eight years as a Radar Technician in the Naval Air Corp achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class in four years. After his military service, he became an engineer for OM Franklin Serum Company, the U.S. Government, and finally Boone County Telephone Company (later known as Alltel, now Windstream). After taking early retirement from the phone company Ervin obtained his license as a real estate agent and later obtained his broker license and for many years drove a bus for Lead Hill Public Schools.

Ervin spent his life devoted to serving his Lord and Savior in full-time ministry while balancing out full-time careers and family time. He served in numerous leadership roles in the churches of Christ as song leader, preacher, deacon, and elder. Ervin officiated more weddings, funerals, and services than can be counted. He was committed to his family and enjoyed life, living it fully and bountifully. He was an avid outdoorsman that hunted and fished on the lakes, streams, and woods of the Ozark Mountains. He made countless memories with friends and family on numerous excursions to Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, and the Dakotas pheasant hunting. He was beloved by all and will be missed by his family and friends until they are reunited with him, someday in Glory.

The family wishes to extend Dr. Ted Fish and Dr. Blake Chitsey a special thanks and gratitude for their devoted professionalism and medical care to Ervin for many years. Also, a special thanks to Hillcrest Nursing Home Rehabilitation for their excellent care. Finally, an extra heartfelt thanks and recognition to Jerry and Leeann Bailey, whom without their help and assistance, Ervin's time here on earth would have been substantially less.

Visitation was at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home on Friday, January 7, 2022.

Graveside service was held at Foresee Cemetery in Lead Hill on Saturday, January 8, 2022, with Richard Hudson and Raymond Stills officiating.

Pallbearers were Tait Bailey, Russell Bailey, Jerry Bailey, Justin Millsap, Chase Curtis, and Randall Manor.

The honorary pallbearer was Terrell Martinez.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children's Homes Inc., 5515 Walcott Rd, Paragould, AR 72450-3319 in memory of Ervin.

Johnie,

We were saddened to learn of Ervin’s passing for you and your family but also understand that where he is now we hope to be before long. You may not remember us but back in 1968 we live in the little red house behind where you guys lived on Capps road. We had the little red headed boy (Rodney).

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Ervin could encourage you in person or by phone conversation. He will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. He & Johnie Pauline were our guides and road trip buddies the 15 years we lived in the beautiful Ozarks. My love and deepest sympathy to his family and members of the Lead Hill Church of Christ.

The last Curtis sibling to leave this earth, beloved brother of my most-precious Papaw, Dean. Though I spent little time with Great-Uncle Ervin, I can say with my whole being that he left a legacy of love through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Pauline, I want you to know that my mom (Donna) has always spoken of you and Ervin with sweet memories of love, laughter, and of course…singing! She recalled Ervin reminding her most of her Daddy (Dean). May God grant you peace and comfort in this time of grieving your near-lifetime best friend and earthly partner.
Leanna, may you and your siblings feel comfort from the Holy Spirit, as you share the love of God through Jesus. We are just “down the road” from you, should you ever need anything. I’ll be praying for y’all.
Love, Deborah (Root) Bills

I have such fond memories of Uncle Ervin, especially during the time he spent in Montgomery attending Alabama Christian College (now Faulkner University). He always had time to pay attention to a little kid like me, so of course, I thought he was very special. I'm grateful for his legacy as a man of God.
