Edith "Edie" Miller Knight

of Perryville, AR

December 15, 1919 - December 24, 2021

Edith (Edie) Miller Knight, 102, of Perryville went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2021. She was born on December 15, 1919 in Thornburg, Arkansas to Henry and Hattie Miller. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Edie was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Joe; her parents and 5 siblings. She is survived by her sister, Opal Boshears; a granddaughter, Libby Sanders (Mark); a grandson, John Knight; great-granddaughters, Ashley Muramoto (Alex) and Heather Sanders; great-great-granddaughter, Adeline; a host of nieces and nephews, and dear friend, Amy Armstrong-Oberle.

She worked as a waitress in Little Rock for years and developed a following of loyal customers who appreciated her professionalism and nurturing manner. Upon retirement, she moved to Perryville to be close to family. She was a member of the Perryville United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Merry Martha's Women's Circle. She was involved in the community and through the years volunteered in the library of the elementary school, at Partner's for Progress, and Meals on Wheels. She was an avid reader and at one time was the oldest Perryville resident with a library card. She loved the library and frequented it long before it became Max Milam Library. She adored those who worked in the library and considered them to be friends. She was also an excellent seamstress and enjoyed all kinds of crafts.

Finally, the family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the Perry County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care, respect and love they gave her. She adored and appreciated all those who made her stay there warm and pleasant. While living there she helped start a Sunday School class for the residents with the help of her dear friend, Cindy Langston.

Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Harmony Cemetery. Mask and social distancing will be required.

Those who wish, may make memorial donations to her beloved Perryville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 645, Perryville, Arkansas 72126.

All of our Mountain View UMC members loved Edie and enjoyed our times with her and Opel and family. We are now called Pinnacle View which was a change from Winfield UMC in December 2021. She was such a lovely lady, kind and caring.

So very sad to hear Ms. Edie has passed. I have had the pleasure of calling her a friend for only 10 years but I am so very thankful for the time. She blessed my life as well as many others with her strong faith and joy of life. Her smile brightened the day for everyone that encountered her. Age takes so much from all of us but it never took Ms. Edie’s smile. God bless all of her family for their dedication to her well being and care. She will be missed by many.

My Aunt Edie was such a loving person and she loved the Lord and always thanked him for her blessings. Sometimes we are selfish and don’t want them to leave us but I know she is with God and her loved ones and she is healed, happy, and no more suffering.

I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Edie. She always sent banana bread to us when her dear friend Amy came to visit us in Metairie, La. During a visit to Perryville, I finally met her in person! We went to the library and chatted in her home for some time. Really wonderful lady. I feel blessed to have been able to share some time with her.

When she left us Christmas Eve, I thought about the Christmas Carol, "Joy to the World" and the lyric, Heaven & Nature Sings.... because her Faith was always so strong & she loved nature. She appreciated natures beauty. She was a kind, sweet lady. I loved her! And her smile; it was infectious.
When spring comes around and we start our gardening, I will be a little sad that she is not there to tell me "pull that weed, Hon!" but the first bloom I see, I will smile... thinking how proud she would be. I will always cherish my memories of her.

Ms. Edie was a dear friend to my mother, Reva Parish. They enjoyed volunteering at Partners for Progress together and had good stories to tell. Ms. Edie always had a positive attitude and about two months ago, I heard her encourage a resident at PCNC that was having a rough day. She will be missed by so many people.
