Edwin Carl Smith, age 76, of Harrison, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021, at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison. He was born October 30, 1945, in Bemidji, Minnesota, to Cleon and Alma (Jurkovski) Smith.

Ed was raised in Pennington, Minnesota, and attended school in Blackduck. He worked for Wheeler's Pole Yard in Cass Lake, Minnesota from 1964 to1968, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to1970. He married Mary Ann Niemeyer on May 10, 1969. After being discharged from the service, he returned to Wheeler's until 1971 when Ed and Mary Ann moved to Dogpatch, Arkansas. He worked for Claridge in Harrison from 1971 to 2005. After Mary Ann passed in 2002, Ed married Joann Smith on September 12, 2004.

Ed enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing and camping with his family, and working in his woodshop making many beautiful and unique items. He enjoyed a variety of foods, but Cajun was his favorite. He was very kindhearted and loving to everyone. He was witty and humorous with a contagious smile. He was loved and respected by many.

Ed is survived by his wife, Joann Smith; two sisters, Liz Johnson and Joyce Kisley; his brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Ruth Smith; two daughters, Stacey Ragsdale and Christy Blevins; five grandchildren, Luke Martin, Dawson McMurtrey, Isabella Nolen, Tyler McCollum, and Justin Brooks; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann; his parents, Cleon and Alma; a brother, Louis; and a sister, Lois.



Visitation was Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was Friday, December 17, 2021, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Brother Dennis Sisco officiating.

Burial followed at Jasper Cemetery in Jasper, AR.

Serving as pallbearers were Luke Martin, Harold Smith, Greg Joubert, John Williams, Arvin Adams, and Michael Ragsdale.

Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Biggs, Charlie Rea, Billy Martin, Dawson McMurtrey, and his fellow veteran's group from the VA.
