Elvira Ohlendorf

of Daleville, VA

November 4, 1924 - November 9, 2021

Bruce Ohlendorf, born Elvira Augusta Kincaid, November 4, 1924, left us November 9, 2021, one of the last of the Greatest Generation. Full of fun, diligence, generosity and love, she lived a life of service to her community and to individuals. Born and raised in the New Hope Community of Ray County, Missouri, she became involved in farming at an early age, milking cows and plowing fields with a mule team on the family farm. She was a grade school student in the one room school house across the road from New Hope Methodist Church, and attended Stet High School. And yes, she rode a horse to get there and back, "six miles each way." After high school graduation, she attended business school in Chillicothe, Missouri, leaving to join her sister, Inez Kincaid, in operating a general store south of Osceola, when Inez was a Mississippi County extension agent. Bruce later began working in the office of Ohlendorf Farms, where she remained until her move to the Roanoke, Virginia, area in 2017, becoming a lively addition to The Glebe Retirement Community in Daleville. She was a supportive and loving member of the Osceola community, involved with the First United Methodist Church, Community Theater, as well as the Blytheville Rose Society, with her sister, Inez. Throughout her life she was a strong advocate for education, quietly helping others achieve their educational goals. She loved her family, friends and associates, as well as farming, hunting, fishing, and being positive and productive. On February 16, 1982, she was married to Harold F. Ohlendorf (deceased August 24, 1999) and they combined their love for family, community, and service. She leaves behind her niece, Lois Virginia Kincaid Baur and nephew, Peter Baur; great-nephew, Andrew Baur and his bride Rachel Schmidt Baur; her cousin, Kay Field Heath and son, Rusty and his family; her Ohlendorf family: June Ohlendorf and sons, Jeffrey Rowe and Jonathan Rowe and their families; Lisa McCord and Kimber Britner and their families; and dear friends who were also family to her. She will be attended by her pall bearers Peter Baur, Andrew Baur, Jeffrey Rowe, Jonathan Rowe, Dedrick McCord, and Heath Adkisson,

Bruce Ohlendorf was a member of First United Methodist church when I joined the church and a loyal and faithful member all her life until she moved from Osceola. She took part in all the church services and activities and was much loved and admired by our congregation. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

You will be forever on our mind. As Heidi always said: When you think of the person, she comes alive. I will always be thinking of Bruce and know that she is alive. We will so very miss her! Love you Bruce, Sonja and David Burnett
