Mary Ann Gusewelle

of Little Rock, AR

December 6, 1967 - November 24, 2021

Mary Gusewelle, of Little Rock, was cured of cancer and reunited with her mother and grandparents on November 24, 2021.

Mary Ann Gusewelle was born on December 6, 1967, in Irving, Texas to Jerry and Mary Sue Gusewelle. Despite early developmental issues, she created a good, full life for herself.

Her father worked for J. C. Penney's, and she lived and went to school in Irving, Texas, Wichita, Kansas, and ultimately Little Rock, Arkansas, where she would remain the rest of her life.

Mary attended high school at The Baptist Preparatory School at First Baptist Church in Little Rock and went on to college at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas. In 1992, she went to work at Kroger on Cantrell and remained there for the next 29 years. Mary attended Westrock Baptist Church.

Over the last couple of decades, she traveled extensively. She would take road trips with friends to visit historical sites, she would go on cruises, and she especially loved going to Disneyland. She collected Disney memorabilia and was fascinated by the Royal Family. She also was a huge Elvis Presley fan. Mary was fascinated with her grandfather's WWII legacy and time in India and contributed to a website about his experience aboard the HMT Rohna, which was sunk by a German-guided missile, causing him to spend the night floating in the Mediterranean Sea. She also amassed a huge collection of photos of her family from decades back up to the present.

She will be greatly missed by her family, her coworkers, and numerous customers whom she got to know as a checker at Kroger-where she often wore festive headwear or antlers when checking out customers during the holidays.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother and is survived by her father, Jerry, and her brothers Dennis and wife Laura, David and wife Angela, Tom and wife Dee, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, 18301 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock. The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., proceeding the service. The entombment will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

I learned of Mary's illness from a personal friend and dear friend of ours in the Kroger family by the name of Glen Gibbons. It was only a few short days later when I heard of her passing. I had the privilege of working with Mary for 16 years give or take at the Highway 10 Kroger. We also grew up in the same church and went to the same school for a few years even though she was five years my senior. I later changed work locations, but she would periodically come into my new Kroger and update me on coworkers and family. She would actually seek me out and share current events etc. She was such a sweet and thoughtful soul. Mary was a unique and special person. Not everyone knew what a great sense of humor she had as well. It was a blessing to know her, and I will miss her dearly. I am thankful that she is no longer in pain. I have read the other posts on here, and I am not surprised that several Kroger customers left their condolences on here. Mary touched so many lives. I am glad the memorial video and service video is here on the site. God bless Mary and her family.

I’ve known Mary for 25+ years. I worked with her when I was a teen in high school. I always enjoyed her spunky outfits that coordinated with every season. As I grew up and I would pass through her line she always asked about my parents, my daughter and if I was still running. Her ability to remember our passing conversations showed she truly cared about people. My husband still works at Kroger. This past summer when he battled with cancer Mary always asked about him. Not only asking me but my mother as well. May she rest in pease. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
