Delphia Lucille McKim

of Jacksonville, AR

August 8, 1924 - October 28, 2021

Delphia Lucille McKim, 97, of Jacksonville, passed away October 28, 2021.

She was born August 8, 1924, in Clinton, Arkansas, to the late Larn and Ethel Griggs. She grew up near Clinton in a small community named Walnut Grove where she later taught school in a one-room schoolhouse for one term after graduation. Later she worked as a munitions operator at the Pine Bluff arsenal making bombs during World War II. After the war was over she moved back home and went to work as a waitress at June's Cafe in Clinton, where she met and later married, Keith McKim, who had just recently been discharged from the Army. They took residence in Little Rock and were married for 38 years.

Delphia worked at Kellwood Company for 20 years as a seamstress making clothes for department stores like Sears and others. She had a real talent for sewing and put it to use at home making clothes for her mother and for her children when they were growing up and later, her granddaughters. She also made quilts and enjoyed crocheting things to gift to others. She was a wonderful cook and was well known for her baking skills, especially her pies, cakes and yeast rolls. She enjoyed going fishing with the family and sometimes making a picnic lunch to take along. She was an avid reader, and also enjoyed growing flowers, working picture puzzles, playing cards and board games, and watching the hummingbirds at the feeder outside her window as she watched her favorite game shows. She became a big fan of Nascar Racing and watching the Dallas Cowboys play, but Delphia's favorite times were always those spent with family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and dearly loved by all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith McKim; her parents; and sisters, Winnie Welch and Wilma Campbell; and son-in-law, John McLaurin. She is survived by daughters, Linda Vasquez (Gene) of Garland, Texas and Kay McLaurin of Hewitt, Texas; son, Ron McKim (Karla) of Lonoke, Arkansas; and her grandchildren, Tim Vasquez (Shannon), Cheryl McIntosh (Spencer), Susan Vasquez, Denise McLaurin, Tyler McKim (Kellie), and Kimberly McGee (Ethan); four great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Emily, Gabriel and Gianna; and sister, Jean Williams of Little Rock; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to all those who worked and cared for her during her residence at Woodland Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Jacksonville.

Services will be Thursday, November 4th, at 11:00 a.m., at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., in North Little Rock. A private burial will be at Pinecrest Cemetery, in Alexander.

We are deeply saddened at the loss of Aunt Delphia. I have many fond memories spent with her, Uncle Keith and my cousins while growing up. She was such a very kind and thoughtful person. She was always a pleasure to spend time with and will be dearly missed.
