Stephen Carl Bass

of Dallas, TX

March 26, 1969 - August 7, 2021

Stephen Carl Bass, 52, of Dallas, Texas, went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 7, 2021. He was born on March 26, 1969, in Dallas, Texas to Carl and Joanne Bass.

Stephen was a graduate of Bishop Lynch High School, Class of 1987, and received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of North Texas, Class of 1991.

He started his career in restaurant management and transitioned into sales at IBM and then Manager of Business Development at American Express Global Business Travel. Stephen was distinguished with many top sales awards throughout his career.

Stephen found his perfect match when he met his true love Jackie over 14 years ago. Stephen was a loyal and loving partner and he valued time spent with family and friends.

Stephen was a lifelong fan of all sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and Mavericks. He loved playing and refereeing basketball over the years.

From an early age, Stephen loved to cook. Among his many gifts was his ability to make others laugh and see the humor in all things in life. His love of music included the Beatles, Foo Fighters, and he never missed a Rod Stewart concert.

Stephen loved playing poker and traveling to Las Vegas. He was competitive and never missed an opportunity to win.

Stephen is preceded in death by his father, Carl Bass of Little Rock, brother-in-law, Mike Dale of Hawaii and mother-in-law, Judie Trowbridge of Houston. Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Kaufman of Dallas; his mother, Joanne Bass of Little Rock; his sister Sandi Dale of Hawaii, his sister Susan Hedberg of Dallas, his sister Sharon Bass of Little Rock, and his sister Stephanie Racop of Little Rock. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Chase Hedberg of Dallas, Courtney Racop of Little Rock, Jeremiah Dale of Hawaii, and Kaitlin Racop of Little Rock; as well as his sister-in-law and husband, Kim and Chris Esson and nephew Riley of Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation and Rosary will be held at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock, Arkansas on Thursday, August 19, 2021, from 6-8 pm with the Rosary starting at 7 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held at The Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock on Friday, August 20, 2021, at 10 am with burial following at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock.

My best memories of Stephen are laughing and debating the most mundane topics. I’m lucky to have him as my little brother and be his big sister. We could talk for hours about so many random funny topics. What I remember most is laughing with him.

The song that will forever remind me of Stephen and bring a tear to my eye is Pearl Jam’s “Just breathe.”

“I’m a little a lucky man to count on both hands the ones that i loved.”…. I’ll meet you on the other side.”

Stephen, I’ll meet you on the other side….my brother and my friend. I miss you beyond words. Until we meet again….

Steven was a friend of my son and daughter’s at Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, TX. He was a wonderful, sweet, kind young man. He was very funny. I am so sorry to hear about his passing away. I wish prayers for his family.

One of my favorite memories of Stephen was watching David Letterman for the first time after a traumatic experience at the Durrett household (3 words-canary ceiling fan-I know the Bass family remembers this! I’m sure Mrs. Bass is still traumatized from the clean up!) He made Stephanie and I laugh so much and thought Letterman would help too. He popped in a VHS tape recording of his shows, as you did in the 80’s. He was right. Letterman STILL reminds me of Stephen (and that unfortunate day my canary met his fate). Being neighbors on Beechmont, the Basses are so engrained in my childhood memories. I’m so thankful Stephen was a part of it and will cherish all the fun times with him. Please know my heart is broken and I’m sending so much love to y’all from MN.

Stephen always stood for what was right. In work and with friends, his hard work and belief in doing the right thing, was foremost in his actions, words and thoughts.

Rest in peace Stephen.

Stephen and I shared the deepest friendship possible on this plane. I will miss our moments of listening to Rod Stewart together. I will miss the laughter. Oh, how I will miss the laughter. Our bond of brotherhood was so very strong, that I shall be reminded of you in finding humor in the most mundane task or the grandest moment of every day — watching the sun come up. As Rod would croon about his love of football “you’re in my heart, you’re in my soul” — because you my good man will live on in my heart, your family’s heart, Jackie’s heart and all those who had the good fortune to have had you in their lives.
