George Henderson Condray

of Bee Branch, AR

November 9, 1938 - July 17, 2021

George Henderson Condray, 82, of Bee Branch, Arkansas, passed away at his home on July 17, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 9, 1938 at Quitman, Arkansas, to the late William Thurman Thomas Condray and Flora Rickman Condray. He is also preceded in death by twin brothers Floyd and Lloyd Condray and his sister, Ava Nell Condray Doyle (Riley) Wood (Farris).

George is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Glynna Pennington Condray, his sons, George Collin Condray (Kathleen) of Fayetteville and Cary Lynn Condray (Paige) of Center Ridge; grandchildren, Sophia, Liam, Alex, Kennedy, Jude, Kate and George Shepard; his nephews and nieces, Gary Doyle (Barbara), Carthel Doyle, Gwen Doyle Dunham (Stan), Rebecca Doyle Russenberger, Sharon Doyle Cullum (Richard); his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Quinton Pennington (Linda), Ina Pennington Cassell (Wendell), Mary Pennington Carrell (Steve), Larry Pennington (Freida), Don Pennington (Donna K.) , Donna J. Bonds Pennington, Claudette Watts Pennington and other family and friends.

George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, devoted brother, and friend. A graduate of Quitman High School and Arkansas State Teachers College, he was a public-school teacher of 34 years in the Quitman and North Little Rock school districts as well as being an insurance and securities representative, and sports photographer. Following retirement, he and Glynna moved to their farm at Bee Branch where his favorite farm activities included having grandchildren visit to enjoy jumping on hay bales, fishing, and hunting. He worked tirelessly to keep the farm looking good and tending his cattle with the help of his two dogs, Princess & Cody, riding along in the ''mule''.

During retirement, George and Glynna enjoyed tours with the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association in the USA as well as Europe. He was a veteran, having joined the National Guard at the age of 16 and was called to active duty on two occasions, ''the Little Rock Central High School Crisis in 1957 and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina during the Berlin Wall Crisis of 1961.

He loved the Lord, was always faithful to his church, served many years as an active deacon, adult Sunday School teacher, and choir member as well as being a Gideon for 30 years. He was a gospel music fan and especially enjoyed five years of singing tenor for the gospel group ''Sustaining Grace''. He was an avid and dedicated student of the Bible and the study of prophecy. Over the years, George attended many prophecy conferences.

In 2017, George was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. His final years of Bible teaching were at South Side Baptist Church in Damascus, where he always emphasized an understanding of dispensations and how Old Testament prophecies are being fulfilled during our lifetime. At the time of his passing, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Center Ridge, AR, having joined after his disease progressed. His son, Cary, was his pastor and George said, ''I love my South Side Baptist Church family, but it is time to go hear my son preach.''

Celebration of life will be at South Side Baptist Church, Damascus, AR on Wednesday, July 21, with visitation 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hardin Cemetery, Bee Branch.

Dearest Cousins,
I am sorry for your loss of such a dear man as George. I loved his folks, "Aunt Flora" and "Uncle Thurman" growing up and spending summers up at Quitman with my Mema and Papa Dan Harton. It was so cool to have George as my math teacher back at Rose City Junior High. He was a great teacher and such a kind person. There is a void in our hearts and this world without him. May our Lord bless and comfort you all.

I am thankful to have known Mr George!
It is a joy to know that it is a temporary separation,
Heaven is so much better and it is eternal!

My condolences to your family. I thought of your father many times throughout my life including very recently. He was a great math teacher and a great example of humankind. Always gentleman, kind and patient and always treated students with respect. He and my mom went to school together. There are many students who thought highly of him including me.
I'm very proud to have known him.

Mr. and Mrs. Condray were my senior high school sponsors. We loved them then and treasure the good memories at Quitman High School. I also was a member of Sustaining Grace. Mr. Condray was a wonderful tenor singer. Enjoyed being in their home. Loved their music room in their lovely home. He is missed. Love to you, Mrs. Condray. God bless your family.
