David George DoddI am a Veteran.

of Hughes, AR

February 26, 1939 - June 18, 2021

David George Dodd (82) of Horseshoe Lake, AR, passed from this wonderful, God-created earth on June 18th, 2021. David was born in Memphis, TN, on February 26th, 1939, the middle son of Judge Doyne and Kathleen Virginia Dodd. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; two brothers, Dr. Doyne Dodd (Margaret) and Dennis Dodd (Sheila) two daughters, Debra Sneed (Macky) and Dana Gardner (Brad); 3 step children, Deborah Eubanks (Wesley). Beck Winterer (Ted) and Wes Taylor, Ten grandchildren, Adam, Will, and Sarah Sneed ; Tyler, Connor, and Alex Nelson; Worth and Anne Wallis Eubanks, Elanor and Steele Winterer, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife, Sue Bogard Dodd, the mother of his wonderful daughters.

David was a lifelong Crittenden countian living in both West Memphis and Horseshoe Lake. He graduated from West Memphis High School in 1957 and enjoyed following the Blue Devils throughout his life. He received a BSCE from the University of Arkansas in 1963 and a Master of Science from Memphis State University in 1972. Following his retirement in 2000, David was privileged to teach and tutor mathematics at Mid-South Community College.

At the University of Arkansas, he was a proud member of the ''Fabulous XI'' chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was an ardent and lifelong fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, who provided him with a fun, inexpensive hobby that led to many friendships and (usually) fun conversations. Woo Pig Sooie!

David always felt extremely blessed to have two fun and rewarding careers in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the Army National Guard. He served a 37-year career as a civil engineer with the Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he was a proud member of a superb team that ensured flood control, navigation, and environmental protection for the Lower Mississippi River Valley. He also served as a Field Artillery Officer in the Arkansas Army Natural Guard for 28 years, with two years of active duty, before retiring in 1995 with the rank of colonel. Among other military honors, he was conferred both the Legion of Merit and Legion of Meritorious Service Awards.

David was a devout Christian and served as a Communicant at Trinity in the Fields Anglican Church. He loved and was thankful to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for teaching us how to live and love and for providing a path to everlasting life in Heaven.

David sincerely loved his Lord, his family, his vocations, and his fellow human beings. A truly blessed man.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to Trinity in the Fields Anglican Church at: 100 East Military Rd. Marion, Arkansas, 72364.

I worked with David many years at the Corps. He was very diligent and professional in his work and his integrity was very apparent. I looked up to him as a young engineer and was never disappointed. We shared a common bond also in knowing and serving the Lord Jesus. Everyone should know that men like him have helped insure the integrity and safety of the Mississippi River levee system that so many of us rely upon to protect us on a daily basis. I always enjoyed seeing and talking to David around town. I take comfort in the fact that I will see him again and that heaven will be a special place because folks like him will be there. May the Lord comfort all his loved ones.

To David's family. I had the pleasure of working across the hall from David when he first came to Construction Division, a long time ago. He was special and I was blessed to have a long friendship with him. My husband (deceased), Bob Fite, taught briefly in West Memphis, and met David before he met me and enjoyed "sports talk" together. Bob was a huge Memphis State fan, as David was an Arkansas fan. Lots of fun when we played each other in the NCAA tournaments; one year, we played twice. Just wanted David's children to know how well liked their father was by his co-workers at the Corps, and they already know what a fine man he was. I'll miss knowing he's around, even tho we drifted a little in recent years. I'll be in touch, Sherry. Thinking of all of you and praying God's blessings on you all.

Sherry;
No words can assuage the grief, sorrow and loss that you are experiencing today. It was my distinct pleasure to know David and members of the Dodd family for over 74 years. In all that time I never heard an unkind word spoken about David.
His sincerity, concern and genuine warmth will be missed by all who knew him, David's was a life well lived and we all are better off for having known him.

Mr. Dodd was my neighbor when I was a child, and then I was privileged to work with him at MSCC (now ASU-Midsouth). Based on his accomplishments, he was obviously a very intelligent man, but what really. stood out was his kindness and humility. I feel blessed to have known him. Prayers for the family.

David was wonderful stepfather to my wife Beck and an incomparable grandfather to our children Eleanor and Steele. I have many fond memories of playing Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly with him, tossing a ball in the back yard and watching way too much football over the holidays. He was as fine a man as you'll ever meet and we will all miss him very much. My heartfelt condolences to Sherry and the rest of David's family.
