Donna Poynter, age 80, of Maumelle, Arkansas passed away on June 18, 2021. She was born in Heber Springs, Arkansas on October 21, 1940, to the late Claren and Lucy Martin. Donna is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bob Poynter; two sons, Bruce Poynter (Elaine) of Shreveport, LA and Barry Poynter (Robin) of Maumelle, AR; two grandsons, Bennett Poynter (Aimee) and Seth Poynter (Hanna); one granddaughter, Bailey Poynter and one great-granddaughter, Audrey Poynter; one sister-n-law, Jamie Querry (Sam) of Heber Springs; four nephews, Jimmy Winningham of Batesville, AR, Brian Munsey (Sandy) and Blaine Munsey both of Little Rock, AR, Bobby Barnett of Heber Springs, AR and two nieces, Robin Seals and LeAnn Stevenson both of Conway, AR. Donna attended Concord Public Schools for the prior 11 years where she was an All-County basketball player. Donna's love of Athletics shifted to the game of golf in her adult years. She served as a grass roots organizer for women's golf in Central Arkansas where she served as President for the Little Rock Women's Golf Association, Pleasant Valley Country Club Ladies Golf Association, and the Country Club of Arkansas Ladies Golf Association. Donna won the Pleasant Valley Club championship in 1992 and 1995 and was the Country Club of Arkansas champion in 1997, 2001, 2002, 2203, 2004, and 2005. Donna Sue and I became friends while attending Hall High School and were first semester roommates at ASTC. Mid-semester, she decided that she would prefer that Bob be her roommate (wise choice) and they were married. Although Donna Sue was widely known throughout the state due to her television appearances with the Martin Sisters group, she was always gracious, kind and a great friend. Sorry for the loss to her family. She was a wonderful person.

Donna was a favorite cousin of my family all her life. She stayed with us in Heber Springs while her mother was in hospital giving birth to her sister, Clarita. Donna (less than two years old) was not entirely happy with the arrangement (being separated from her mom). In today’s parlance, she had a major meltdown! A few years later I was the morning “paper boy” delivering newspapers to the Poynter family, among others, which included none other than Bob. Who would have guessed at that time, what the future held.
We have always loved Donna and been very proud of her. She will be missed.
Our sincere condolences to Bob and all the family,
Charles and Reggie Stuart
