R. was the son of a postmaster and general store owner and grew up in several small towns in north Arkansas including Ravenden Springs, Maynard, Fifty-Six, Mountain View, and Dowdy. It was while he was living at Dowdy that he met the love of his life, Madeline Saffell Stinnett. They were married on December 20, 1958, in Nashville, Tennessee, where J. R. worked for the Arkansas Foundry prior to working at and retiring from Missouri Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad after 21 years as a blacksmith/boilermaker. J. R. served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attended Archview Baptist Church in Little Rock.

J. R. was a loyal family man who enjoyed spending time with his family as a devoted husband to Madeline, a loving daddy to Sonya and Kevin, and a fun-loving grandpa/pawpaw to Kayla, Kurt, Justin, and Trevor.

He is preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.

Dear Mrs. Stinnett and Sonya, I was so sorry to hear about the death of Mr. Stinnett. I remember him always being so patient while I treated Mrs. Stinnett at Dr. Hatley’s office, and when we visited about Trevor and Justin’s sports activities and their good grades in school. I’ll be praying for comfort and peace for your family and all who knew and loved Mr. Stinnett.

J.R. was a beloved part of the Archview Baptist Church Congregation. He and Madeline attended regularly and served the Lord at Archview for many, many years. Their contributions to the Lord’s work helped our church to grow in their younger years and they have remained faithful to His service at Archview ever since. They raised their kids and grandkids here for many years until the Lord called their family elsewhere to serve. We love and appreciate each of them and pray that the family will be comforted by the Lord’s loving arms during this time of transition.
