I just stumbled on Mr. Ewart's obituary when looking for another ... I had Mr. Ewart as my math teacher at Mabelvale Junior High School I believe it was in 1968. I always loved him and I think everyone of his students did! He wasn't "that" much older than we were at that time. He was "hip".
He had a paddle (back in the day when teachers were allowed to paddle), the paddle had a nickname ... The Red Raider Persuader! I honestly believe some of the boys just misbehaved so they could get a few licks! My condolences to his family. He was a sweetheart.

Mike Daniels, my fiance and I met Mel about six years ago at the Old River Club. He was always so kind to both of us and when we saw him he always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He was entertaining at best and we always left saying we liked seeing him that day. He started having failing health a year ago and we always asked, has anyone heard anything about Mel? It is sad and to our complete sorrow that he passed from this earth at such a young age. He will be missed.

Mel, you will be missed sooo much. I remember all of our fun horseshoe and washer games. My thoughs and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. Get them horseshoes ready my friend, we'll play a game when I see you on the other side. Until we see each other again
