Euell W. Forbus, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2021. Euell was born in Norman, Arkansas on September 13, 1941 to Euell and Priscilla Dee (Melugin) Forbus. Euell's biological father died at a young age and his mother, Priscilla, was blessed in marriage to Kenneth Carter when Euell was just a youngster. It was Kenneth Carter who assumed the role and responsibility of being a father to Euell, loving him and raising him as his own child: teaching, mentoring, correcting and inspiring him to follow his path in life.

When Euell was in High School in the late 50's, it was a time of muscle cars and sock hops! He always loved cars and he loved to drive! He also loved sock hops -- he would dance the fast dances with his sister, Kaye, and the slow dances with his high school sweet heart and future wife, Karen Sue Brooks. He graduated from Wichita High School in 1959, enlisted in the Air Force in January 1960 and after completing basic training married his true love in 1960. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before she passed away in May 2016.

During Euell's time in the Air Force, He specialized in Air Traffic Control and Warning, serving until his Honorable Discharge in May 1967, receiving the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship award. After serving his country, he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Air Traffic at several US Airports, including one of the busiest in the nation, Denver International. Euell and Karen moved around the country a lot, but eventually, he became Area Manager in Jonesboro, Arkansas before he retired. He also served as a Music Director and Assistant Pastor at several churches in Kansas and Oklahoma after studying at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. One of his lifelong dreams was to become a pilot and he achieved that while stationed with the FAA in Miles City, Montana.

Euell and Karen decided to retire in Mountain Home, Arkansas twenty-six years ago because he wanted to spend time with a brother he had not known as a child. He formed a special bond with his brother, Kenneth Forbus, and they spent most of their days together, enjoying their coffee, watching the birds, running errands and fixing or building just about anything that caught their attention.

Euell always loved music, he learned to play the guitar at a young age and became a very accomplished musician, playing just about anything you put in front of him. While working in Wichita, Kansas, he discovered and joined the ''Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing'' (SPEBQSA) and continued his involvement in Barber Shop in Mountain Home, joining ''The Ozark Naturals'' singing as Lead in ''The Short Cuts'' quartet and as one of the Leads in ''The Double Quartet''. After he retired, he took up a hobby repairing and restoring guitars, fiddles, banjos or just about any instrument with strings!

Euell was proud of his accomplishments in life: his family and home, service in the ministry, and his enjoyment of airplanes, cars and a passion for music! He will be missed by his family and all who knew him for his good humor, his sweet smile and his mellow voice, but we know he is in heaven''¦singing, playing a guitar and dancing a slow dance with his beautiful wife once again!

Euell is survived by daughter: Kimberly of Alaska; two sons: Steven of Montana and Robert of Colorado; two sisters: Kaye (Roger) Webb of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Karla (Mike) Moreland of Mustang, Oklahoma, and three brothers: Randy (Dessie) Carter of Sulpher Springs, Texas, Kerry (Yolanda) Carter of Ripley, Oklahoma, and Kenneth (Jan) Forbus of Mountain Home. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, his beloved ''Granny'' Melugin, daughter: Vicki, and sister: Joni Carter (Suzy).

A Celebration of Life will be held between 5-7:00pm on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Roller Funeral Home. Interment will be held at 10:00am on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Cotter, Arkansas. Donations can be made to the Hospice House of the Ozarks or the Alzheimer's Association in Euell's memory.
