August 11, 1950 - April 13, 2021

Richard Gilbert Fresquez, 70, died peacefully with his wife of thirty-four years, Alice Jo, by his side, when his heart gave out late in the evening on April 13, 2021.

Rick was born to Emma and Gilbert Fresquez on August 11, 1950 in Salem, Oregon. The family settled in Hayward, California, where Rick graduated from Sunset High School. In the summer of 1966, when Rick handed-off the baton to his track coach, he and his Sunset track teammates had set a world record by running a 10,000-mile relay.

Rick enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam; after which he earned a bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University, followed by postgraduate work in physiological psychology.

He was a career software developer, working for Fleming Foods, Wells Fargo Bank, and retiring from Visa International, before moving to Arkansas to be near his granddaughters. He was an avid photographer including many high school sporting events, and in retirement; loved woodworking, was a member of the Benton Gun Club, and even took up knitting. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of North Little Rock, he also attended Park Hill Baptist Church with Alice Jo.

Rick is survived by his wife Alice Jo of Sherwood, stepson Brady Gadberry (Jennifer) of Little Rock, and granddaughters Allison and Meredith. In addition, he leaves his mother Emma Fresquez, sister Cindy Milleman (Peter) both of Hayward, CA, and beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Gilbert, and his sister, Patricia.

Final interment will be at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, after a small private service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to IC or to Heifer Foundation at https://myheiferfoundationgiving.org

My deepest condolences to Alice and family! I just found out through Facebook that Rick had passed earlier this year as I was in the process of wishing Rick a happy birthday! I have very found memories of Rick working with him at Visa, he was such a kind man. I remember sharing recipes for diabetics with him. I am so sorry for his early passing and will miss him dearly.

I certainly missed seeing you guys around the bay area and I wish you all well.

Love, Linda Kao

Alice Jo,

Rick was more of a brother to me than a brother-in-law. We shared laughter and talked a lot, remembering the trips to the beach and favorite places we visited. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.

All my sympathy

I was a runner with Richard at Sunset High School when we set the world's record in the continuous relay of 10,000 miles. He was such an awesome individual and so dedicated at whatever challenges came his way. He will be missed by many, but we will once again be together in the hereafter to celebrate the accomplishments of this life. May his family be eternally blessed.

What a beautiful tribute to a special cousin and wonderful man! Having been brought up in the Bay Area at the same time as Rick, we attended many family gatherings through the years. I remember his fun Mustang car. As we grew older, we became friends as well as cousins. I remember him coming to Southland where I worked to say good-bye before he went to Viet Nam. He was proud to be a Marine. I loved his special sense of humor. I am glad that we were able to have a phone chat early this year. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.

I have many fond memories of Rick and A.J. Rick had a great sense of humor. His determination was amazing. When I was training him with weights he always wanted to do more. I had to remind him he wasn't walking the year before. He was a kind, humble human. I have pictures he took of 2 of my girls when they rode their ponies in our home town parade. He will be missed, never forgotten....

Rick was the light of the life of my precious friend of many years, Alice Jo. She loved him so very much, and I know why. Rick was loyal, dedicated, and fun-loving. Every time I saw him he flashed that same mischievous smile and exhibited the decorum of the best the Marine Corps had to offer. Rick loved life, his Alice Jo, and all of his family. How fortunate I was to be his friend!
