Thomas "Jeff" Jefferson Davis

of Benton, AR

November 17, 1922 - February 8, 2021

Thomas Jefferson ''Jeff'' Davis, 98, of Benton, passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Monday, February 8, 2021. He was born in Pulaski County to John Alexander Davis II and Lillian Eva Norman.

Jeff was a man full of zest for life, never turning down an opportunity to joke around or make someone laugh. He was so caring and welcoming, and always embraced people and their company with open arms. He spent much of his time after retirement visiting people in nursing homes and hospitals, bringing a smile to everyone's face in a time when they needed it most. Anyone who knew Jeff knew of his lifelong love for horses, but even more so, his family. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and his heart was filled with joy and contentment when his family was together. He was a proud member of the United States Coast Guard and served in the Pacific campaign during WWII, acquiring the title of ''WWII Veteran.'' He had been a member of Northside Church of Christ since 1959 and was an elder for 15 years, serving from 1979 to 1994. His high sense of integrity and honor made him the man that everyone loved and respected. He will be missed but his memory will be cherished, and his legacy will continue through those who loved and cared for him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bobbie Jean Shepherd Davis; brothers, Norman Davis, Terrel Davis, Doyle Davis, Hayden (Joe) Davis, Jack Davis, and Bob Davis, and a sister, Kathryn Milks.

Jeff is survived by his sons, Carroll Davis and his wife, Betty, and Tom Davis and his wife, Martha; his daughter, Janelle Doyel; grandchildren, Doug Davis and his wife, Joeleen, Jeremy Davis and his wife, Teresa, Ashlee Cross and her husband, Josh, Jeffery Davis, Jessika Doyel and her partner, Max Cypress, and Kymberly Stonick and her husband, Ben, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many other extended family members and friends of his family.

A Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Northside Church of Christ, 917 N. East Street, Benton. Visitation will be an hour prior to service time at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.

Northside Church of Christ is complying with the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines and limiting indoor funeral and visitation attendance to 300 people at one time. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering.

Memorials may be made to Southern Christian Children's Home, P.O. Box 649, Morrilton, AR 72110 or Corin Read Christian Camp, 917 N. East St, Benton, AR 72015.

I have wonderful memories of Jeff and Bobbiejean. They took us ‘under their wing’ as we were young Christians. They were the best part of our lives. I will miss him at the Veterans Day celebrations at the Courthouse. He was patriotic, always with a smile and greeting for everyone. The last time he reminded me of commenting “you don’t look a day over 30”. I was 25 at the time. I will miss him there. A true Christian sums up Jeff Davis ‘ Life. I loved Jeff Davis.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Jeff (“grand dad” by many😊)
He holds a special place in my heart. He was like a grand father that I never had. When my family moved back to Benton in the late 70’s/early 80’s, Jean and Jeff were very encouraging and helpful during that transition. I always loved going out to the Davis farm—riding horses, shelling peas, cooking/canning with Betty and Jean. Jeff was always patient with me with it came to riding horses—I was a little nervous but he knew how to put you to ease
No matter what kind of day you were having he would change that mood with the smile on his face and kind words to say to you that made your day
He will be greatly missed.
I know his family in heaven are ready to see him—especially Jean!
Chad and I are sorry we can’t be at the funeral tomorrow BUT
You ALL will be in our thoughts and prayers as you face the days, weeks and months without him

So sorry to hear about the loss of Mr. Jeff (“Grand dad” to many)
Even though I haven’t seen him in a few years I have fond memories of he and Jean. They always treated me like I was part of their family—we do share Aunt Betty 😊
Fond memories of many conversations with Jean and other ladies at the beauty shop❤️
I always loved going to their house to ride horses—even though I wasn’t very good at it/a little nervous on the horse. He was very patient with me! He always had a kind word to say and a smile on his face to whoever he met—friend or stranger
I’m sorry that Chad and I won’t be able to be at the service in person tomorrow but
ALL the family will be in our thoughts and prayers as you face the days, weeks and months without him.

We will miss Jeff more than words can say. He and Jean were always so encouraging to us when the boys were small and got rambunctious in services. What a blessing for a young family! I'm sure the Northside table in Heaven is having a great time today.

I use to call Mr Jeff "Jefthro Bodine" and he would just. chuckle. On occasion he would hold his fist up and shake it at me, but he was always laughing when he did it. He made some beautiful bird house and other items that were auctioned off and always brought a good price to help our Christian camp with it building fund. My wife and I will miss him in our services when thing get back to normal services at church. He was as wonderful person to be privilaged to know.

We started attending Northside in 2015 and had only known Mr. Jeff during these last 5 or so years. He was always smiling, laughing, and cracking some jokes. I wasn't aware of the leadership role he had at Northside until just a few years ago. We had always looked up to him because of those attributes as well as his sons serving as Shepherds and great men along with their wives. Mr. Jeff will always be remembered as "Young Man" as we called each other that because on Sunday mornings we'd shake hands and it was always a "joke" to see who could shake or squeeze the hardest. We will definitely miss his smiling face but we can rejoice in knowing that he is joining his wife in glory and will be waiting for those loved ones to follow. To the family.....Tom, Martha, Carroll, Betty, Janelle, and extended family....just know that he was loved and adored by all those who knew him or came in contact with him. God Bless You during this time of sadness but rejoice knowing he's finally home.

When I first heard that Jeff was so sick tears were the first response. Then the memories came flooding in. So many evenings that our parents shared in homes of friends after church on Sundays while the kids played, parental weekend card game and pot luck gatherings from home to home, hours spent learning from Jeff how to care for my horses, his twinkling eyes, easy laugh, gentle guidance, and so many other cherished memories bathed in those tears. When I heard he had passed it was easy to envision the crowd that awaited his entry to Heaven; Jean and Faye in the forefront with the Kirkpatricks, Hairstons, Styles, Cobbs, Adkins, Garretts, Paces, Musics, Lewis', Calverts, Coxes, Garners, Whites, Womacks, Buchanans, my parents and too many more to name all crowding behind, eagerly waiting their turn to shake his hand and hug his neck once again. Truly, a day of rejoicing. I share these memories and this image with Jeff's family in the hopes that it may bring some peace and maybe even a smile amidst your tears and sorrow. You are each lifted up in prayer for the coming weeks and months ahead. Your dad was so very loved and will be missed by many.

To Jeff’s Family: My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. In sorrow there are many questions, in faith we find the answers. When I married Joe and became a member of the Davis Clan, I was immediately welcomed with love and friendship. Jeff and Jean always made me feel special. As a family, we made many cherished memories together.
May you know the Lord’s presence during these days as He keeps you in HIS care!
