Helen Lea Watts

of Harriet, AR

October 25, 1936 - January 25, 2021

Helen Lea (Hinkle) Watts was born October 25, 1936 at Harriet, AR and passed from this life into eternal rest on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Baxter Regional Health Center in Mountain Home AR at the age of 84 years and 3 months. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Mary Ellen (Sutterfield) Hinkle. Growing up, her family traveled to various states during harvest season to pick vegetables and fruits.

Helen was a garment factory worker and seamstress until a back disability. She attended the Harriet School and Marshall High School through 1954. She was a Christian and loved working with summer Bible School sessions at the Rock Creek Community Center and read her Bible daily. During her later years she made regular phone calls to friends, families, and neighbors to check on their health and well-being which she was often more concerned about than her own. Often she would tell her daughter to remember to pray for one of them regarding their health or a need they had. She prepared food for many Ha-Roc-Co Fire Department fundraisers and served the department in other capacities. Nothing pleased her more than baking her famous coconut cream pie, chocolate rolls, fresh apple cake, honeybun cake and fried apple pies or making her dumplings and cole slaw and watching family, friends, and neighbors enjoy them! In her younger years, she loved fishing down on Big Creek and Buffalo River or stringing up the trout at Blanchard Springs. Another favorite pastime of hers was crocheting afghans and stocking caps and giving them to neighborhood children, friends, and family or donating them to hospital nurseries. She loved nature and displayed rocks and driftwood collected on various fishing trips. Her green thumb was evidenced by her many houseplants throughout the years and beautiful blooms in her yard. She enjoyed sitting on her porch waving at neighbors passing by and watching the huge variety of birds that she always insisted be fed. Without her special neighbors, Travis or Laura, to water her flowers and feed her birds, this would not have been possible.

Helen is preceded in death by her late husband of over 57 years Dennis, her parents, one sister, and grandson Kevin Dewayne Watts. She is survived by her three children who she loved dearly: daughter, Cynthia Gail Bryant of Springfield, MO; two sons, Dewayne and wife Trish of Flippin and Greg and wife Beth of Harriet; brothers, Tommy Hinkle and wife Joyce of Huntsville, and Jimmy Hinkle of Huntsville; and brother-in-law, Billie Joe Watts of Mountain Home. She was known as "Granny" or "Ma" to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren including: grandsons Russell Horton and wife Kayla of Harriet, Lucas Bryant and wife Jill of Strafford, MO, Seth Bryant and wife Tiffanie of Koshkonong, MO, Kyston Watts and Rikki Blau, Kyler Watts, and Christian Watts all of Flippin and two granddaughters, Brendy Watts of Flippin and Brooke Sellers of Atlanta, GA. Her great grandchildren include, Saylor and Silver Horton of Harriet, Roxie Bryant of Koshkonong, MO, and Dawson Bryant of Strafford, MO, Tori and Kendall Sellers of Columbus, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services for Helen will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 29, 2021 at Rock Creek Cemetery in Harriet, Arkansas with Bro. Jerry Watts officiating. Honorary bearers will be Lucas Bryant, Seth Bryant, Kyston Watts, Christian Watts, Kyler Watts and Russell Horton. At the family's request memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we are practicing social distancing at our graveside services and all patrons are required to provide and wear their own masks. Anyone with underlying health conditions are advised to please stay home. You may sign our online guestbook on our website: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/marshall

Helen and her husband, Dennis, were such dear people to meet when we first moved here years ago. She was so sweet and caring of other folks. I loved sharing the bounty of our garden with her. I could not visit her recently due to the COVID pandemic, but called her often. My husband & I will surely miss her kind wisdom! Prayers to the family!

Helen was like a mom, sister, and favorite aunt all rolled into one. Her kindness towards us was limitless. We were so blessed to have this wonderful woman as our neighbor. She loved us and cared for us and we loved her back with abandon. Helen knew everything about anything around here. As new neighbors, she was a wealth of information. She always made us feel welcomed. This woman will be so missed. We are very grateful we had her in our lives.

Greg &Beth, Russell & Kayla, and other family members, so sad to hear of your loss. I talked to your mom (Grandma) on the phone many times and she was always a pleasure to talk to. She would always say I don't mean to bother you but I need to ask a question? I always told her she was never a bother and I always enjoyed visiting with her. She was always so sweet. Sympathy and Prayers to the family.
