January 23, 1942 - December 13, 2020

William ''Bill'' Ward Pierce, 78, of Batesville passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020.

He was born January 23, 1942 in Poplar Grove, Arkansas to William Marion Pierce and Virginia Josephine (Nelson) Pierce.

Bill was a member of Desha Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Air Force; he was hardworking and worked at the Independence Steam Electric Station for about 18 years. He was a die-hard Ford man and loved Ford pickups; and enjoyed the outdoors in his younger days. He loved 50's and 60's music having grown up in the Golden Era of Rock-n-Roll. Playing music was a constant in his life. He grew up with Lavon Helm where he was a member of The Ramblers, a Rock-a-Billy band inducted into the Rock-a-Billy Hall of Fame. Bill played the guitar and learned to play the piano while just a teenager in The Ramblers.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Charlotte LaVon (Finchum) Pierce; daughter, Michelle Paik (Thomas) of Hillsboro, Oregon; step-daughter, Cindy Lynn Craig of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Micah Paik, Kylie Vincent, and Noah Paik; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-daughter, Christy Lea Vincent.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Desha Baptist Church.

Graveside services will begin at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Egner Cemetery in Salado, Arkansas under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville with Josh Swinea and Troy Sharp officiating.

Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 am Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.

Charolette, Michelle and Cindy I know you all have heavy hearts, but Billy is a much better place with our Lord and Savior and may He hold you in his loving arms of comfort. I have been trying to remember when I meet Bill and it goes far back, I think to 1958. I remember that his cars were always spotless. He told me that he would stop at a .25 cent car wash and rinse off the dust. His dad and my uncle worked at the Ford dealer in Marvell and we may have meet there. I bought a guitar and found out that Bill played, got him to show me some things, then somebody said “Hey let’s form a band and become famous”, nobody has ever owned that statement. We played a lot of music over the years and enjoyed it, the last time we played together was in 2010 in Helena with Jimmy Evans, had a great time.
I will miss our phone conversations and will miss our friendship we had over the years. Rest well my friend and say HI to your mom and dad for me.

Mike

Rest in music and peace Billy.

I was a Rambler with Billy in the fifties and have precious memories with him Mike Hoover, Jerry Nolan, Pat O'Pry, and Billy Lafferty in our band. We were pioneer rock-n-rollers and didn't know it.
We played regularly at the Helena Teen Club to teenagers who danced like the newly liberated.
It was a wonderful time and place.
